Building towers was the perfect way to learn while having fun. We used math vocabulary big/small and tall/short as we described towers in order to introduce those ideas from our math curriculum in our preschool hour for children 3-5yrs old.

There was even bonus emotional regulation skills we worked on when our towers fell.

Trains, dinos, and drums oh my! We gain so many skills while we are playing. Our play and learn groups are designed to let children learn through play and sharing, problem solving, and working together natrually happen.

A huge shout out to PNC of NC for their donation of school supplies to our play and learn groups! They collected construction paper, sensory materials, scissors, markers, pencils, and an art easel. We can't say thank you enough to their staff for their generous donation.

Every once in a while a real world repair is needed. We had a friend put their screw driver skills to the test when we had a loose screw.

Try and give opportunity for your children to help with real world things. This will build their confidence and skill even if it takes a little more time.

Our community programs offer many activities to do during their play and learn time. We love having our program in Knightdale and appreciate our partnership with in allowing us to use their space.

EWEF is looking to hire an assistant teacher for our Community Programs. Please help us spread the word!

Qualifications
• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Two or more years of experience with young children or in an early childhood education setting preferred, with an understanding of developmentally appropriate practices
• Fluent in Spanish Preferred
• CPR/First Aid Certification Preferred
• Basic Computer Skills Required
• Able to pass a background check

The Ideal Candidate
• The ability and desire to provide quality, nurturing care to children enrolled in the
program
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with parents/caregivers
• An eagerness to learn and the ability to implement new skills and expertise
• The ability to work independently, stay organized, take initiative, and make appropriate judgment calls
• The ability to work alongside programming staff to support families and facilitate daily programming
• Assist in setting up and breaking down a classroom each session
• Ability to lift 30lbs, stand, stoop, kneel, and sit on the floor as needed
• Implement summer programming at our Wendell location
• Prepare materials and activities for weekly programming
• Assist in identifying and recruiting families for programming

Schedule
• Regular work schedule Monday through Thursday 8:30 am -1:30 pm (20 hours per week)
• Occasional events outside of normal working hours (Notice will be given in advance of dates and times)
• We are a twelve-month program

Pay and benefits
• Hourly Pay Based on Education & Experience: $15 to $16 an hour
• Part Time staff also receive four paid holidays throughout the year

The more vocabulary we use with children they more they are exposed to. We often talk about the basic shapes; circle, triangle, square, etc. However 3D shapes are important to introduce as well. With a few cut outs, 3D beads and toilet paper rolls we created a simple activity to encourage the use of 2D and 3D shape vocabulary and work on sorting skills.
