We had a great time hosting a private course this week with a few local companies! We are always happy to schedule a private course, whether it be an organization or a group of friends. The benefit of a private course is that the hands on scenarios can be tailored to what you’re most likely to encounter ☀️⛈️🌊 Visit the link in our bio for more info!

👏🏻 Let’s give a huge round of applause to Jason, one of our lead instructors, on completing the DiMM: Expedition & Wilderness Medicine course!

He climbed to 19,500 feet on Aconcagua while gaining firsthand experience in providing medical care in the high alpine environment and performing technical evacuations.

What an incredible skill set to bring back to CMM. We’re so proud and can’t wait for him to apply this knowledge in our Wilderness First Aid class this March 🤓🏔️

☁️Can you name this type of cloud? This is standing at Camp 3 on Aconcagua, staring at the Summit.

Unfortunately, lenticular clouds above Aconcagua means “no go” so our instructor, Jason, was not able to hit the summit on this trip. We are still very proud of him and amazed by what he did accomplish! We can’t wait to hear all about what he learned at our upcoming class March 28-29 🤩

🤔 WWYD WEDNESDAY 🧠

You and a group of friends are hiking in Colorado. After a couple of hours on the trail, you have less than a mile until the summit of Quandary Peak (14,265 ft).

One of your friends starts acting… off.

She’s stumbling.
She can’t pronounce her words clearly.
Earlier today she mentioned having a headache, but otherwise seemed fine.

Now she’s not herself.

What do you think she’s experiencing?
What’s the FIRST thing you should do?

Drop your thoughts below 👇

We’ll post the answer in 24 hours in the comments!

🏔️ Heading to high altitude can feel intimidating, but knowing your meds makes a huge difference. Here are some common medications used to prevent and manage altitude illness:

• Diamox (acetazolamide) 💊: Helps speed acclimatization and reduce the risk of acute mountain sickness (AMS).
• Dexamethasone 🧠: Steroid used to treat severe AMS and high-altitude cerebral edema (HACE).
• Tylenol / Ibuprofen 🤕: Over-the-counter options that can help relieve headache and mild symptoms.
• Nifedipine 🫁: Blood pressure medication used in the treatment of high-altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE).

Acclimatization is still your best prevention, but having the right tools matters. Talk to your doctor about the different medications that can help you prevent altitude illness.

Save this for your next climb 🧗‍♂️

Our instructor Jason has officially made it to base camp 🙌

📍Plaza de Mulas
🏔 3,400 m / 14,107 ft

Did you know there are guidelines for how much altitude you should gain each day?

Once you’re above 10,000 ft (3,048 m):
• Increase sleeping elevation by no more than 1,000 ft per day
• Take a rest day every 3,000 ft gained
• If you have symptoms of altitude illness, don’t go higher until symptoms improve

You can hike higher during the day, just remember to descend to sleep—> “climb high and sleep low.” Acclimatization is key. Failing to acclimate can have lethal consequences.

✨Follow along for more altitude tips while we cheer on Jason until he hits the summit! If you want to learn even more about altitude and wilderness medicine, check out our courses at the link in the bio!
