SPOTLIGHT ON WVC ALUM // Meet WVC alum and Emmy award winner Josue Cuevas. His parents immigrated to the U.S. with the intention of expanding opportunities for their family, and his dad’s repeated encouragement to go to college is an important part of Josue’s identity today. “My parents gave up everything to give me what I have now,” he shared.

Josue grew up in Wenatchee and enrolled at Wenatchee Valley College after high school. He remembers his time at WVC fondly, from conversations with his TRiO advisors to afternoons spent with friends in Van Tassell Center. Thanks to the journalism classes he took with Dr. Karen Alman, chair of WVC’s Communication Studies department, he realized he liked to write and began to explore journalism. Josue transferred to WSU, where he studied journalism and media production before starting work in the local news industry in Spokane.

WVC celebrated Tom Martin's retirement last week with a night of folk music in The Grove Recital Hall.

Thank you to all of the students, faculty, staff, and community members who joined us for the first Coffeehouse at WVC! We had a full house and can't wait to see this new tradition grow.

Tom, congratulations on your well-earned retirement and thank you for your dedication to WVC all these years!

SPOTLIGHT ON ALUMNI // Once you're a Knight, you're always a Knight! This month, ambassadors from Wenatchee Valley College visited local businesses owned by WVC grads to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and to thank them for the work they do for our community.

WVC alums like Lorena Sandoval are opening small businesses in North Central Washington that make our communities stronger. Lorena and her husband Manuel de Jesus Leandro opened Leandro's Cafe & Bistro at Columbia Station in Wenatchee last spring.

Happy Indigenous Peoples' Day! WVC recognizes and honors the original inhabitants of the land our campuses reside on: the Wenatchi people (P'squosa), the Colville, Lakes, Okanogan, Moses-Columbia, Entiat, Chelan, Methow, Nespelem, San Poil, Chief Joseph Band of Nez Perce, and the Palus.

WVC is committed to recognizing that Indigenous histories and perspectives are part of our shared story. As Dr. María I. Morales-Sánchez shared with faculty and staff, "This day is an opportunity to honor Indigenous peoples in their fullness: to remember their histories, celebrate their cultures, recognize their ongoing contributions, and affirm their right to joy, belonging, and self-determination."
