Students release our salmon into the Columbia river after raising them from eggs at Valley Academy! Students learned about salmon throughout this Science unit where they dissected and learned about the anatomy of a salmon, raised salmon from eggs, and then named their fish and released them into the Columbia. What an amazing opportunity for our students to learn in a hands on way!

5th grade students had a few field trip opportunities in the past few weeks. They went on the Beauty of the Bronze” trip to learn about sculptures and different types of art. They also went on the WSD Shrub Steppe hike to immerse themselves in the rich diversity of the shrub steppe ecosystem. The outing served as a dynamic connection between classroom learning and real-world exploration, providing an opportunity for students to engage with nature and deepen their understanding of science.

Garden Science students are learning all about soil! They are learning to identify different types of soil and classify soils by how water travels through them.

Young Botanists continue their deep dive into the world of plants by comparing pollen shape and texture among three different lily plants. They made hypothesis around how this affects pollen transport by a variety of pollinators.

Our high school Restoration Ecologists worked to assist in the clean up of Lower Sleepy Hollow post floods. The Wenatchee River, which usually runs at around 4,000 CFS topped out at 40,000 CFS during the flood event. Much of the students previous work with planting and sheet mulching was carried away with the swift waters. Such is the work of restoration ecology! We were happy to leave the land better than we found it. Now that it is spring, we are assessing the landscape to monitor how healthy the watershed is. Students
