WVU Extension - Brooke County WVU Extension Service meets the changing lifelong learning needs of people, organizations, and communities by putting knowledge to work in our community.

WVU Extension, working for you. A few of the activities conducted this past year in the community by the Agents, the NOI instructor, and the 4-H Program Assistant, have included:

Nutrition Classes in the primary and middle schools
Participation in the Health Fair at Wellsburg Primary
Taking the “Health Rocks” Program into the elementary schools
How to Start Plants from Seeds
A Rain Barrel Workshop
Square Foot Gardening
Holding Agriculture Days for all of the 5th Graders in Brooke County at Brooke Hills Park
Preparing “taste tests” at the Farmers’ Markets for demonstrating tasty vegetable dishes
Assisting in the nomination of a local citizen for the Governor’s Award for Community Service
Writing grants for beautification projects in the area
A six-week summer Energy Express program to enhance reading skills for students
4-H Camp that included 87 campers
A Cloverbud camp held at Brooke Hills Park

Meet Maureen! An outstanding Brooke County 4-H volunteer whose journey has come full circle.
Her path began as a camper, where she earned the Spirit of Camp Award an honor given to those who embody the enthusiasm, positive attitude, and core values that define the 4-H camp experience. Today, Maureen brings that same passion to her work as a dedicated leader and volunteer. She serves as the leader of the Buffalo Clovers 4-H Club and plays a vital role at Bro-Hio 4-H Camp, crafting unforgettable experiences for the next generation.
From an award-winning camper to an inspiring mentor, Maureen’s journey illustrates how 4-H shapes young people into caring, community-minded adults. Brooke County 4-H is deeply grateful for her unwavering dedication and the time and talent she invests in supporting local youth. Maureen is helping "To Make the Best Better" 🍀

Once a 4-H member, always part of the 4-H family! 🌟

Paige joined 4-H at age 9 and continued her involvement into adulthood, growing from a member into a dedicated volunteer. From leading her tribe at camp and teaching dance classes to helping at the county fair and participating in STEM activities, 4-H gave Paige opportunities to build leadership skills, think critically, and step outside her comfort zone.

Today, Paige is a second-year graduate student studying speech-language pathology, where she is gaining hands-on experience helping children develop their communication skills.

Paige credits 4-H with helping shape her passion for serving others, empowering individuals, and creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued. Her journey is a wonderful example of how 4-H experiences can make a lasting impact far beyond the club meeting!

Thank you, Paige, for sharing your story and showing how 4-H helps prepare young people to make a difference in their communities and beyond! 🤍

This Thankful Thursday, I want to recognize the amazing team at the WVU Extension Service in Brooke County. Their dedication, enthusiasm, and willingness to go above and beyond help make our 4-H programs, community initiatives, and school enrichment programs successful. I am thankful to work alongside such a talented group of individuals who are committed to enriching the lives of others. 🍀 How It Started ➡️ How It’s Going 🍀
Nuncia's 4-H journey began when she was just 5 years old, and she has been actively involved in Brooke County 4-H ever since. Over the years, she grew from a young 4-H member into a camp counselor, mentor, and leader who now helps guide the next generation of 4-H'ers.

Along the way, Nuncia has served as a Brooke County 4-H Camp Counselor, and in 2018 she was selected as an Extension Camp Instructor, traveling across West Virginia to help lead 4-H camps and inspire young people throughout the state.🍀

Today, she continues to make a difference as a counselor at Bro-Hi-O Cloverbud

🍀 How It Started ➡️ How It’s Going 🍀

In 1998 Tia started her 4-H journey. What began as a childhood activity became a lifelong journey of learning, leadership, service, and agriculture. Over the years, she attended 4-H camp, became a 4-H camp counselor, served on Junior Fairboard and Junior Leaders, showed rabbits and market ducks, earning both Grand and Reserve Champion.

At the time it was fun, but looking back she can see how much those experiences taught her. 4-H taught her that leadership is about more than holding a title. It’s about serving others, working together, showing up, and giving back to the community.

Today, 28 years later, she gets to put those lessons into practice as the Agriculture Program Assistant with the WVU Brooke County Extension , helping create opportunities for the next generation.
4-H has made her Beyond Ready. 💚🍀
