The ability to pave the road for someone who was once written off, to now writting their own story is a privelage not too many former prisoners experience, but should all strive for. God bless my brother .

Southport Correctional Facility slated to close in 2022. Touted as New York State's "Super Max" I had a first hand view of what that exactly meant. Converted from a General Population facilty to a massive SHU (special housing unit) in 1990. I was part of that first wave of new arrivals with no less than 12-36 months of solitary confinment to serve. We came from every correctional facility across the state. The public spin was we were the worst of the worst, "we could'nt be housed amongst the general population. The truth was Southport became a place for the state to lock away their drug addicted, mentally ill, and reform activists. Dont get it twisted many others in there may have belonged in there, but no one deserved the rampant abuse and psychological anguish they endured in that place. In May of 1990 while in C-block we were forgotten in our cells for days as a riot unfolded in A-block. The abuse had gone too far. So long Southport and let's not forget the buildings may sit empty but the same system is still alive
