To the current and future generations of firemen: Get out of the 4 walls of your firehouse and train. Learn from others. Try new things. Bring new ideas back and pay it forward to those eager and willing to better themselves and their organization. Don’t let the “How we’ve always done it” crew keep you from taking steps to improve the fire service. Positive fire culture is alive and thriving across the country. A lot of great instructors pushing awesome programs. Take advantage of the opportunities for self improvement. You won’t regret it! 🤙🏾

Please keep the Beidleman family in your thoughts and prayers. Elmer was a young, energetic, and enthusiastic human being. We had the PRIVILEGE of working with this young fireman a few years ago. He had that “what’s next” attitude followed up with a memorable smirk. Godspeed brother Beidleman!

Whether you practice VES, VEIS or whatever you call it, it all comes down to a few things. Get in the room as fast as you can, make sure the door is closed and get the people out. There are a million ways to get through a window and situations will dictate how you get it done. Use what you have. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best and fastest.

Wanna practice your hose loads without keeping a crosslays on the truck tied up? Grab ya a sheet of plywood and a couple 2x4's and make up some makeshift trays. Works great for training. Not to mention, no climbing all over the truck and emptying out the hose bed. leaving the truck ready for service.

Through-the-lock is a more technical and less destructive way of gaining access on both routine and emergent calls.

A basic understanding of door construction locking mechanisms makes a world of difference when trying to gain access.
