Virginia Hosley Free Library

Virginia Hosley Free Library We are a lending library in Wells NY, encouraging community through reading, music and entertainment We try to keep up to date with new releases.

The Wells Library was founded in 1988 by Virginia Hosley and is run entirely by volunteers. The library has not-for-profit status, and a mission to help enhance the social and cultural needs of our community. The library is not part of the Southern Adirondack Library System and so all of the books movies etc. available are either donated or purchased with library funds. This is made easier with gen

erous donations from our patrons. We have various events open to the community during the year: Monthly movie night, book sales, book signings with local authors, a family Easter egg hunt, and a winter concert series. The concerts are high quality and are sponsored in part by funds allocated by NYSCA through the Adirondack Center for the Arts in Blue Mountain Lake. We also have some generous business sponsors: Alicia C. Miller Real Estate, Bove Fuel. Mountain Memories, J&R Eldredge, NBT Bank and Stewarts Shops. The concerts are the fourth Sunday of the month January through April and provide a great way to spend the afternoon during our cold Adirondack winters. We are thankful to be able to continue with these projects and give something back to the community in which we live.

The Virginia Hosley Library is pleased to announce the first presentation in its new “Author Talks” series, featuring award-nominated author and former crime reporter Lori Duffy Foster (pictured), on Saturday, August 22 at 1p.m. at The Revival, located at 1441 Route 30, Wells.

The afternoon will include an author presentation and book signing of her newly published book “Spring Melt “and give an opportunity to meet Foster, hear about her writing career and connection with the Adirondacks and learn more about her acclaimed mystery and thriller novels.

A former crime reporter, Lori Duffy Foster was born and raised in the Adirondack Mountains, where a piece of her heart remains. Her previous novels include “Never Let Go,” a thriller, and the Lisa Jamison Mystery Series. Her books have been nominees or finalists for Agatha, Silver Falchion and Shamus awards. Lori is a member of Mystery Writers of America, Sisters in Crime, The Historical Novel Society, International Thriller Writers, The Finger Lakes Authors & Readers Experience and Pennwriters. Lori now lives and writes in the hills of northern Pennsylvania.

“Spring Melt” centers around a doctor’s wife in a thriving Adirondack village in the 1920s. Ella Devine seems to have an ideal life. Her husband grew rich catering to New York City socialites who wanted to hide their TB diagnoses from their friends. Their marriage is devoid of emotion, but so is she, having learned long ago to quietly accept whatever life offers. All that changes when three men are charged with a 19-year-old murder, and the long-buried crime that shaped Ella’s childhood is brought to light, and the carefully constructed life she has known begins to unravel.

The library invites area residents, readers, writers and anyone interested in local history and the Adirondack to join in welcoming Foster for this inaugural event.
