Though this might be a bit abnormal of a post, we wanted to take a brief moment to recognize the life and legacy of Dolly Parton and the direct impact she had at BMU.
Dolly not only served as a well-loved musician to many generations of Bucks, but she also percolated the ideas of love, kindness, and humanity in action throughout her life.
One important way she did this was by reflecting on her youth in a rural area, with parents who were illiterate due to circumstance and lack of educational opportunities. Dolly herself often shared her love for reading and reflected that she too experienced a lack of access to books as a child in a rural area.
In mindful and intentional action, Dolly founded Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. Through this foundation, Dolly invested her personal wealth to ensure children in the early education range had access to books of all kinds.
Last year alone Bucks received over 600 brand new books to keep via the Imagination Library. Early access to books impacts literacy for life. We have been and continue in memory to be thankful to Dolly Parton for this gift of love to our personal learning community.
Within Dolly’s personal planning (she had to have worked way longer than 9 to 5)…she ensured that the Imagination Library would continue on even after her passing as a gift of kindness and empowerment to countless children.
This week Pre-K and Kindergarten students will be sent home with registration forms for participation in the Imagination Library Program.
To participate Parents/Guardians simply need to fill out the form and return it to school. The registrations will then be processed by our Librarian and every student found eligible by the foundation will receive a book in the mail monthly until their 6th Birthday.
If there are younger siblings at home, additional copies of the form can be requested from the Librarian for submission on behalf of those children.
