An absolutely amazing woman! Well deserved!

In recognition of her work, Dr. Marguerite Duane was awarded an academic prize from the Heritage Foundation. One of 14 prize winners chosen from over 80 applicants from various fields, one of only two women awarded, and the only physician recipient, Dr. Duane is dedicated to helping patients build their families and teaching the next generation of medical professionals.

As a prize recipient, Dr. Duane was given the opportunity to attend the Heritage Summer Colloquium in Washington, DC to network and learn. Dr. Duane and the other prize winners visited the National Archives to see the founding documents. They also received training on how to share the work they are doing, opportunities to collaborate in research and education, and discovered pathways for research to impact policy.

Did you know the WHO's "normal" s***m guidelines are based on the lowest 5th percentile of fertile men, not what's actually optimal? đź‘€

In this week's episode, Lisa breaks down the 2021 update to the WHO semen analysis guidelines — how they're calculated, why the new numbers are barely different from 2010, and why a "normal" result doesn't always mean optimal.

If you or your partner have had a semen analysis, this episode is worth a listen. 🎧

Every cycle has a unique, individual story to tell.
Some days you'll notice changes.
Some days you won't.
The value of charting isn't found in one observation, but the culmination of each—found in the patterns that emerge over time.

That's where body literacy begins.

Charting isn't about perfection.

It's about becoming more familiar with your unique patterns, asking better questions, and building confidence in your reproductive health.

Your body is constantly communicating with you.

Sometimes those messages are subtle.
Sometimes they're impossible to ignore.

Many women have been told that painful periods, heavy bleeding, or intense PMS are simply something to "put up with." While menstrual experiences vary, recurring patterns are worth paying attention to—not because they automatically mean something is wrong, but because they provide valuable information about your overall health.

One of the most powerful things you can do is begin observing and recording those patterns.

Charting doesn't diagnose.
It doesn't replace medical care.
It DOES help you better understand your body and have more informed conversations with your healthcare professional.

Have you experienced any of these?

1️. Painful periods
2. Heavy bleeding
3. Irregular cycles
4. Recurring PMS or other symptoms

You're not alone, and your experiences deserve to be heard.

Did you know your body gives you fertility clues every single cycle?

One of the most important—and most overlooked—is **cervical fluid**

For many women, it was never explained. We were simply told it was "normal discharge" and left to figure it out ourselves.

But cervical fluid is one of the body's natural signs that reflects hormonal changes throughout the menstrual cycle. Learning to observe these changes is part of developing body literacy and understanding your unique cycle.

Your body can be mysterious, but there are ways to understand it better!
It isn't working against you, it's communicating.

We've been taught to focus on our periods.

But what if the most important event in your cycle actually happens before your period begins?

Ovulation is the main event of the menstrual cycle. It's a sign that your reproductive hormones are communicating and working together. While a period tells you what may have already happened, understanding your ovulation provides valuable insight into your body's overall health.

Many women have never been taught:
What ovulation is
Why it matters
How to recognize when it's happening
What changes with this process might mean

Learning to chart your cycle isn't about obsessing over every symptom. It's about developing body literacy—understanding the patterns your body naturally gives you each cycle.

Whether your goal is to conceive, avoid pregnancy, better understand your hormones, or simply feel more connected to your health, charting can be an empowering tool.

Has anyone ever explained to you why ovulation is so important? Comment below to let me know your experience!

Goodness, there’s so much more to ovarian biology than we ever imagined.

A new study suggests that postmenopausal ovaries may not simply “shut down.” Instead, they shift to a more immune-active state. Which could be negative if it contributes to chronic inflammation. It could also (in theory) be positive if it promotes tissue repair, antimicrobial defence, and even anticancer activity.

As a biologist, I find this fascinating. And humbling.
