Creating in the Atelier: Leonardo Classroom

Our Leonardo friends spent time in the Atelier exploring color, creativity, and self-expression through a hands-on art experience.

The Atelier is a special space where children are invited to slow down, explore materials, make choices, and express their ideas through the creative process. During this experience, the children selected colors and used paintbrushes to create their own unique pieces while sharing the workspace alongside their friends.

Through experiences like this, children are strengthening fine motor skills, concentration, independence, creativity, and confidence. They are also learning that their ideas and choices are valued.

In our Reggio-inspired environment, we believe art is not simply about the finished product. It is about the process of experimenting, discovering, collaborating, and giving children another language through which to express themselves.

The Leonardo classroom was full of little artists and big ideas today!

A Quiet Moment of Independent Learning.

In a Montessori-inspired environment, even the simplest moments can hold so much learning. With a beautiful book in front of her and the freedom to explore at her own pace, this little learner is building concentration, independence, language, and a natural love of learning.

Montessori encourages us to slow down, follow the child, and provide an environment where children can make their own discoveries. Books invite children to observe closely, make connections, ask questions, and explore the world around them.

These quiet moments of focus are where confidence and independence begin.

Learning Through Exploration in Leonardo!!

In our Leonardo classroom, creativity begins with curiosity. Today, our young learner explored color, texture, shape, and materials through a hands-on creative experience.
Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, children are encouraged to experiment freely with materials and allow their ideas to guide the process. As he carefully selected and placed each piece, he was strengthening fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, concentration, and creative thinking.

In Reggio-inspired learning, the process is just as meaningful as the finished creation. Every choice tells a story, and every child has their own unique way of expressing their ideas.

This is the beauty of the hundred languages of children: giving them the materials, time, and freedom to create, explore, and discover.

Creating, Exploring & Reimagining in Cassett!

Our Cassett classroom became a Recycled & Natural Materials Lab, where our young learners explored how everyday and natural materials can be transformed through creativity and imagination.

Using recycled materials alongside items found in nature, the children were encouraged to touch, investigate, sort, build, design, and create. With a Reggio Emilia-inspired approach, there is no “right” way to create. The materials become an invitation for children to follow their curiosity and bring their own ideas to life.
Experiences like this encourage problem-solving, fine motor development, creativity, collaboration, and respect for our environment while showing children that something simple can become something extraordinary.

At Prodigy of Wellington, we love creating meaningful learning experiences where the environment and materials become another teacher.

Reduce. Reuse. Reimagine. Create.

😊 The Many Expressions of Childhood 😊

In a Reggio Emilia inspired environment, we believe children have a hundred languages and so many different ways to communicate, explore, and express who they are.

Sometimes those expressions come through words, sometimes through art and movement, and sometimes through the sweetest little faces.
By noticing and celebrating facial expressions, our children begin to explore emotions, identity, communication, and connections with others. Every smile, silly face, curious glance, and thoughtful expression tells a story.

At Prodigy of Wellington, we give children the freedom to be seen, heard, and celebrated for exactly who they are.

Because every little expression has something to say. 💕

Our little artists have been busy exploring self-identity, creativity, and self-expression through self portraits!

Using simple, natural materials like cardboard, paper, pipe cleaners, buttons, and other loose parts, the children were encouraged to look closely at their own unique features and create a portrait that represents ME!

There is something so special about seeing themselves through their own eyes. Each portrait is completely unique, just like each child!

Through experiences like this, children strengthen fine motor skills, creativity, concentration, independence, and their developing sense of self, all while having fun creating something they are proud of.

At Prodigy of Wellington, we love giving children opportunities to explore, create, and celebrate exactly who they are. 🌱

Picasso celebrated with a joyful Bubble Party today! 🫧

Through hands-on exploration, the children delighted in chasing, catching, and observing bubbles as they floated through the air. This sensory-rich experience encouraged concentration, coordination, movement, and wonder while fostering social connection and collaborative play.

Picasso eagerly engaged with the activity, exploring cause and effect, refining fine motor skills, and experiencing the simple joy of discovery.

It was a beautiful celebration filled with curiosity, laughter, and meaningful learning through play.
