Statistics don’t always tell the full story, but they can keep us informed. This article reviews the surge in college applications, which states have the highest number of college applicants, whether standardized testing is on the rise again, where first generation students stand,and whether standardized testing is on the rise again.

New first-time college applicant data from the Common App found a growing number of students sending in test scores in their applications.

As my seniors celebrate many of their early decision replies coming in now, I’m reminded of a Wall Street Journal article published on trends toward interest in southern colleges and universities. Increasing numbers of New England students are now considering southern schools for reasons ranging from preferred climate, tuition costs, school spirit and a pace of life that feels more manageable.

The likes of Georgia Tech, Clemson and Ole Miss are drawing students from the North who want to have fun and save on tuition.
