~Nationals Recap~

WDS had our best showing at Nationals ever!!

Maya Rubin and Cindy Zhao TOP BROKE with a record of 7-0, and made it to Quarterfinals! Maya was also 7th speaker and Cindy was 20th speaker.

Eugenie Park and Rachel YueXin Fei finished with a record of 3-4. Extra congratulations to Eugenie for winning APDA's inaugural GM Debater of the Year award!

Audrey Higley and Sarah Moore finished with a record of 2-5.

WDS as a whole had record high rankings for -OTYs!

TOTY:
Maya and Cindy ended as 18th TOTY
Maya and Eugenie ended as 43rd TOTY

SOTY:
Maya ended as 9th SOTY

COTY:
Wellesley ended as 12th COTY.

This year sets records for WDS in all -OTY categories. Congratulations everyone, and here's to many more!

We're back at it with a tournament recap!

Eugenie Park and their hybrid Allison Li CO-CHAMPIONED at UMD Online, and Eugenie was 5th speaker!

WDS also send 3 teams to Northeastern ProAms, which was WDS's first tournament in person for almost 2 years! Huge congratulations to Jillian Sutton, Audrey Higley, Eugenie Park, and AK Sarah Elizabeth for competing, and to Maya Rubin and YueXin Fei (Rachel) for making it to Semi-finals! Maya was also 5th varsity speaker and Rachel was 10th novice speaker.

WDS's incredible recent showing leaves us at 11th COTY, which is the highest WDS has been ranked in recent memory.

Fun little tournament recap from the past few weeks!

At Pitt/CMU Online, Eugenie Park and Maya Rubin made it to semifinals! Eugenie was 4th speaker and Maya was 3rd speaker. Extra congratulations to Eugenie, who is now fully qualified for Nationals! This tournament also marks the first time in WDS history that more than one debater has qualified for APDA Nationals in one year!!

At Smith Novice Online, Sarah Elizabeth and Rachel YueXin Fei broke to semifinals! They also both got speaker awards, with Sarah as 6th speaker and Rachel as 3rd speaker. Extra congratulations both of them, as this was Rachel's first ever speaker award and Sarah's first ever speaker award AND break!!

It was an exciting weekend for WDS to say the least!

This weekend we co-hosted the annual GM tournament with UVA. Not only did we have a great time judging some awesome rounds and run on time (this is what happens when GMs are in tab btw), but we also have some pretty exciting updates:

Alekhya Bhat and Sarah Hickey were our novice champions and Sarah was the 8th Novice speaker!!! We’re so so proud of our novs!!!

Another one of our amazing novs Eugenie Park partnered with Audrey Shing from NU (who’s by all means a member of WDS too), went 5-0, and broke as the top team!! AAAAHHHHHHH (this is Amy screaming btw)!!! Audrey was 8th Varsity speaker (yay!!!!) and Eugenie was the 1st Varsity speaker!

This weekend was wholesome vibes all around!!! A special shoutout to Wingel Xue for TOing and to Parliamentary Debate Society at the University of Virginia for being awesome co-hosts! We hope everyone who attended had a great weekend!!!

This weekend we traveled...to the Science Center...for AU/NU ProAms!

Congrats to Maya Rubin and Jillian Sutton (one of our AMAZING novs) for breaking to doubles octas!

Anna Smith debated with Alekhya Bhat, Jamie Clark with Sarah Hickey, and Amy Rose partnered with Eugenie Park. Everyone had some great rounds!!! Monica Ochoa and Cindy Zhao also judged!

To escape the cold, some members of WDS made the long trek down to Villanova this past weekend! Special shoutout to Zan Rozen from Amherst, honorary WDS member, for driving!

Some members of WDS also stayed up north and competed/judged at Brandeis IV! Monica Ochoa had a great time competing with Kyle Cook from Tufts, and Isabella Tomovski & Cindy Zhao enjoyed judging!

This weekend we made our final tournament playlist of the semester and drove down to NY for the Fordham tournament. Sadly, Monica is going abroad next semester so this is the last time Monica and Auriel were at a tournament together

Congrats to Cindy Zhao for breaking to octos with her hybrid Maxwell Sheremeta from GU!

Monica Ochoa and Auriel Haack had a fantastic time debating together, so did our novs Rozey Wright Hill and Anna Smith. Our nov Amy Rose judged some great rounds, including varsity outs! Maya Rubin and Isabella Tomovski both had a very fun time hybriding with Ryan from Brandeis and Kyle Cook from Tufts!

Though it was a 4 round tournament, it was a 5 round tournament in our hearts ❤️
