Bugs, building, and BIG discoveries at our Sprague site! Our children have been getting outside, searching for bugs and paying close attention to the tiny world all around us. And what an epic discovery we made—one of our young explorers found a praying mantis! With the help of a teacher, we safely placed our new friend in our terrarium for a quick study before releasing it back into the wild. We always follow our bug-hunting rule: Look at it, Love it, and Let it Go! And the learning didn’t stop outdoors! Indoors, the children have been trying out a brand-new activity: woodshop! This month, they put their creativity and building skills to work designing and constructing their very own wooden cars. From tiny creatures to big creations, there’s always something exciting to discover, build, and learn at Sprague!

At Hardy WCCC, we love seeing our children dream big, get creative, and challenge themselves through hands-on STEM learning! Our 2nd–5th graders recently put their engineering skills to the test by building intricate castles entirely from rods and balls. The creativity and innovation were incredible! One engineer even figured out how to create a working wheel using the same materials! Meanwhile, another group of children let their imaginations run wild as they designed and created their own unique monsters using paper and clay. From engineering castles to bringing imaginative creatures to life, our children are learning that there’s no limit to what they can create when they combine curiosity and creativity!

Our Schofield WCCC groups took on a Cup Stacking STEM Challenge! Each child came up with their own unique approach—experimenting with shapes, balance, height, and structure to create their towers and designs. Some built tall and narrow, others focused on strength and stability, while others tried completely unexpected ideas! Along the way, they tested, adjusted, rebuilt, and learned from what worked an what didn't. The best part? Watching each child turn a simple stack of cups into their own creative design through problem-solving, persistence, and a little bit of imagination!

The Orange Room has started out the year exploring the book area! This is a popular area for reading independently, with a teacher or in a small group. We strive to include many different types of books including read aloud, nonfiction, early readers, poetry, and graphic novels. Offering a wide variety of books allows for each child to find an interest and for teachers to expand on this interests. These interests turn into emergent curriculum where the real play begins!
