It’s commonly accepted among the scientific community that the universe is expanding. However, it’s not as though we can take an outside view of the universe and observe that it’s getting bigger. To say that the universe is expanding from our position here on earth is an extraordinary claim, and extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
The evidence that scientists have is that of redshift, a phenomenon where light appears to be tinted red when a light source is moving away from us. By observing that far off galaxies emit redshifted light, we can conclude that they are moving away from us and the universe as a whole is expanding.
If you’d like to read more about redshift, please take a look at this excellent article by Elizabeth Howell on the topic.

Have you ever wondered about how there are such a huge variety of plants and animals spread around the world? The differences–and similarities–between dogs and gorillas, or trees and mushrooms are described as biodiversity, and are all due to a process called evolution.
Evolution explains how the planet has so many varieties of different plant and animal species, but also demonstrates how closely related all forms of life are. Check out this great video exploring the mechanisms of evolution.
How Evolution works
The mechanisms of evolution explained in one video. The theory of evolution explains how the enormous variety of life could come into existence. How it is pos...

After a disheartening year marked by the halting of our in-person classes and the necessary transition to remote learning, we are excited to announce that our leadership and teaching team is preparing for in-person STEM and coding classes in the Fall.
Over the break, we decided to revitalize our curriculum plans. We’re refreshing our STEM lessons with new, creative, hands-on activities exploring topics like environmental health and natural sciences, and we’re restructuring our coding curriculums into a cohesive and complete course combining multiple languages.
Our teachers are excited to foster learning and curiosity in the classroom after over a year of missing out on the rewarding experience that is teaching. Be on the lookout for afterschool course registration in the Fall–we couldn’t be more excited to be back!
