Guru Culture
Many healers, teachers and entrepreneurs unconsciously (some consciously) create/recreate the same power dynamics we see holding up our unhealthy, but culturally accepted, forms of relationship: power over. This perpetuates hurt, confusion and codependence.

If someone is offering any kind of relational healing, they must be willing and able to repair. That is a huge part of healing relational and attachment wounding.

How to recognize a teacher, practitioner or facilitator who is ethical, conscious and providing relational healing:
• they center the work and provide clear containers for you to use the tools

• the process continues to deepen over years
• the teachings are rooted in teachers, lineages and tools that have been passed down from teacher to student - not learned by Google or YouTube - and ALSO are not invented by the practitioner
• The roles within the container are clear and upheld
• they mostly keep their personal story, transformation and healing out of the container
• They consciously never lean on you, or the group, to meet their own dependency needs of belonging, belief in their ability or protection.
• You are welcome to and given a container in which to push back, ask questions, bring difference AND you are met with kindness and support to explore more
• The facilitator doesn’t express when they get triggered into their own wounding/defenses inside the container. It happens to us all, but the facilitator’s role is to hold their own reactions out

What do you think? Do you know people who fit this description? I do. And I have done my own deep relational healing with facilitators who meet my expectations, thus building trust.
If you have trauma or relational wounding, which we all do to some extent, it’s extra important to find these kinds of clear containers to do you healing within. Messy boundaries lead to more trauma.

We are made of many stories. Here are a few of mine:
1. I was raised in the Hindu traditions at Mt Madonna Center in Watsonville, CA. This has informed my life immensely, from deep spiritual seeking to valuing community and dreaming of communal living. In recent years, I have reclaimed my ancestral connection to the wisdom found in the Vedas and in living a karma yoga lifestyle.
2. I have been with my husband, Steve, for nearly 20 years. Longevity doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a good relationship, but I am grateful, fortunate and inspired by the relationship we have created together, many times over. I am wiser, stronger and clearer because of him/us.
3. I am an artist of many mediums: watercolor paints, gardening, acting on stage, sourdough bread, and many more. I thirst for creative living, playing and expressing myself. I started acting at age 2; I play guitar, piano and now ukulele; I learned about the plant world alongside my dad as a child, in his garden and greenhouse and he still advises and encourages my gardening adventures; I used to crumple my art up because it didn’t look “real;” I’ve been making sourdough everything for 3 years and feeding people has become a healing sādhana for me.

Thanks for getting to know me a bit more. I’m thrilled and honored to live the life I have! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Understanding the difference between projection and perception is transformative. Projection is our own reflection; it’s something we move from ourselves on to the other person. (Like thinking someone is angry at you, when actually you are angry with them).
And when we can discern it, we can reclaim it and approach others with curiosity.

Perception, on the other hand, is a claiming of something we can see truth in. (Perhaps you can see that someone else is angry with you, even if they aren’t really acknowledging it themselves).
Perception allows us to comprehend the context. By seeing the context clearly, we can stay present for ourselves and others in a way that respects and honors everyone. •
Let's commit to understanding this difference and watch how our relationships flourish.

I know these three signs are not only possible for you, but vital to living a dharmic, passionate and wildly satisfying life!

One of the best ways to help your relationship grow and flourish is to have honest, vulnerable conversations about where you are and where you want to be in the relationship.
Many of the couples I work with seek my support in getting clear and speaking their truth to each other without fighting or fixing.
Even with the most loving intentions, our defenses get the best of us.
Our relationships are the bedrock of health in so many ways.
Tend to yourself in your relationship.
Tend to those close to you.
Find the interdependence of living honestly and connectedly.
