Autism parenting pushes you to look past the behavior.

✔️Past the labels.
✔️Past the snap judgments.
✔️Past your own ego

It forces you to understand what’s actually happening, so that you can lead instead of react.

Parenting a child with autism is extra.
Extra everything — except time, understanding, and resources.

And it changes you.

That’s what I’m talking about in the next two episodes of the podcast.

Another unscheduled lock-in?

Your only job right now is to keep them alive.

Housed.
Fed.
Maybe even sleeping once in a while.

Let the dishes pile up.
Let snacks count as meals.
Let the screens supervise.

Sometimes it’s just about survival.

If school calls derail your whole day, it helps to have support and some go-to strategies.

I work with autism moms to stay grounded in these moments, so they can respond more effectively and move on with their day instead of being hijacked by fear and worry.

"Am I Being Too Soft?” That was the text I got from a client on Christmas night.

She knew her daughter was dysregulated and that the ""old school" discipline her family was rooting for would backfire spectacularly.

Still she wondered, “what if they were right?”

This is what second-guessing does: it splits you in two.

If this story hits close to home, it’s probably because you’ve been there too: trying to make the right call while your nervous system is lit up and everyone has an opinion.

You’re not alone. And you’re not wrong.

If you ready to ditch second guessing for self-trust, I can help you. The first step is to schedule a consultation call.

You don’t have to big RBF energy (like me) for your face to set your child off.

A tight jaw, sharp eyes, or fast expression reads as danger to their body.

Before you speak: soften your eyes, loosen your jaw, slow your breath. Your cues matter more than your words.

Stop trying to out-reason your child’s emotions.

It doesn’t matter that you don’t think they should feel the way they do.

They do.

If you want to lose their trust and amp them up, keep telling them to “calm down” or “it’s ok.”

If you want to connect and co-regulate, validate their emotions.

You can do this by calmly saying things like,

“I know this is hard for you.”
“I get you are upset.”
And my favorite, “you’re not wrong.”

You don’t have to solve it.

Just show them you are in their side.

I used to spend hours trying to convince my son that the thing he was looping about — whether he heard the teacher’s directions, fastened his mask the “right” way, or missed something important — was okay.

I’d explain it from every angle.
Then I’d explain it again.
And again.

It never helped.
Because anxiety and OCD loop are not logical, they are fear-based.

Instead of focusing on how difficult you think your child is being, focus on the things you can do to regulate yourself.

Step away.
Take a deep breath.
Remind yourself that this is not your child giving you a hard time.

This is a child who is having a hard time.

Easier said than done, I know!

If you struggle with this, it can feel defeating and isolating.
You don’t have to carry it alone.

This is the work I do with autism moms every day.

Book a consult and get real support for the moments that test you most.
