Weatherly Area School District hosted the awards ceremony for the Wyoming Valley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Here is a list of the awardees!

American History Essay Winners
Elementary School - 5th Grade Essay “Lunch with a Signer of the Declaration of Independence! Brynlee Steward, Veronica Weston, Jenna Covey, and Lydia Zink, who won 1st in the Wyoming Valley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution

High School - High School Winner Essay - Linda Houser who won 1st in the Wyoming Valley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution for her essay about "Marquis de Lafayette” in the High School Essay contest, Patriots of the American Revolution.

Junior American Contest (JAC)
The theme for the Junior American Contest, sponsored by the Daughters of the American Revolution, was, "Celebrating 250 Years of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness: Happy Birthday America! 1776 - 2026!". The winners at the state, regional, and national level are:

High School: Elizabeth DiGennaro first in Nation for her Short Story and Maci Kane, 2nd in nation, for her poster!

4th Grade winning Banner, 2nd in Nation: Maci Miller, Reya Gregory, Abby Guth, Evelynn Herling, Grace Gregory

6th Grade winning Banner, 1st in state: Cora, Katherine, and Nickolaus Dreier

7th Grade Banner, 2nd in Nation: Cameron Snyder, Ben Steward, Rosaleigh Bates

8th Grade Banner, 1st in Nation: Mikayla K***z, Elsie Gower, Lilah Gower, Riley Bachert

4th Grade Digital Art : Leonardo Rodriguez, Raymond Neikam, Aria Zimmerman, Elliot Stallone, Blake Andrukaitus. Leonardo 1st, Aria Zimmerman 2nd in Nation

7th and 8th Grade Digital Art winners: Madison Sipler, Julian Perkins, Aubrey Stellar, Evan Janiec, Dinah Janiec, Gabriel Blackwell. Madison won 2nd in the nation and Gabriel won 1st in Nation!

Ivy Clark, 7th grader, won the Photo Essay contest, 1st in Nation

Nickolaus Dreier, 6th grader, won 1st in the Nation for Graphic Novel

Grade 4 & 5 Poster competition: Lydia Zink, 5th Grade, 1st in state; Rylee Sewell, 4th grade, 1st in State, and Bria Zimmerman, 4th Grade, 2nd in Chapter!

Grade 7 & 8 Poster competition: Cameron Snyder, grade 7, won 3 in Nation; Olivia Keefer, grade 7, won 2nd in state, and Gabriella Klick, grade 8, won 1st in state!

In the Stamp Competition: Reya Gregory, 4th grade, 2nd in Nation; Peter Ruotolo, 1st in state; Aubrey Burke, 7th grade, 1st in Nation; Maddie McGee, 7th grade, 3rd in nation; Rosaleigh Bates, 2nd in state; and Lina Gregory, 1st in nation!

Three students won an award for their Poem: Noelle Rambaran, 7th grade and Dinah Janiec, 8th grade, both won 1st in State! Riley Pitman won 2nd in the Wyoming Valley Chapter.

For the 2026-2027 school year, the theme for the JAC competition is, “A Symbol of Independence: The Statue of Liberty Illuminating the Path to Freedom for 140 Years.” Students can enter 8 different categories and compete among students in the same grade level. The categories are: Banner, Digital Art, Photographic Essay, Poster, Stamp, Graphic Novel/Comic, Poem, and Short Story. Book Project - Two students give free books in "Free Book Fair"at Weatherly Elementary School

Lydia Zink, grade 5, and Abby Guth, grade 4, decided on a mission to find good homes for used books among Weatherly Area elementary students for each of the older, used books kept in a storage closet. Lydia and Abby sorted all the books by grade level and invited elementary classes to come to a "Free Book Fair," where each student could get at least one free book to take home. Students could keep the book or bring it back to school to trade with another student. To make the experience fun for the students, Lydia and Abby programmed a robot, which they created out of Legos, to move around the book sale room saying, in their own voices, "Get a free book" or other encouraging messages to pick a book. Students followed the robot back to their respective classroom after everyone had at least one book!
