Summer is here which means lots of family activities, sporting events, staying cool in swimming pools, rivers, lakes and so on.
While having a fun fulfilled summer keep in mind the number one way to minimize pediatric emergencies is PREVENTION.
Yes good ol fashioned keeping an eye on your little ones and putting good sense safety measures in place, such as fencing around pools, ensuring household cleaning supplies and medications are out of reach and so on, remember little ones are curious and learn about the world by putting things in their mouth.

With the hot and humid weather here be sure to stay hydrated. You know your hydrated when your urine is the same color as the clear water your drinking. Dehydration makes the heart and kidneys work harder. Be sure to have some form of electrolytes after every 3rd or 4th bottle/glass of water via electrolyte packets or comparable. When the initial extreme heat or cold hits it’s the very young and old that are impacted hardest, watch out for each other.

Emergencies don’t come with warnings.

I’ve seen people freeze—not because they didn’t care, but because they didn’t know what to do.
