The WC Board of Trustees has proposed a tax rate of 11.4716 cents per $100 valuation for 2026-27, keeping WC among the lowest-taxed community college districts in Texas while supporting a $117 million budget. WC welcomed high school counselors from across the region for this year's CTE Summit on Monday, highlighting career pathways, workforce trends and the growing opportunities connected to Workforce Pell Grants. Weatherford College alumnus Jack Christopher Blair has created a permanent scholarship endowment through the WC Foundation. The Jack Christopher Blair Scholarship will support students in good academic standing, prioritizing Parker County residents.

Meet the instructor helping Weatherford College grow a new opportunity from the ground up.

Dr. Erin Arthur has joined WC to lead the new Golf and Sports Turf Management program launching this fall. With a Ph.D. in plant pathology from Texas A&M University and expertise in turfgrass, plant diseases and horticulture, Arthur brings both academic knowledge and real-world industry experience to the classroom.

Students in the program will gain hands-on training at Canyon West Golf Course while preparing for careers in golf course operations, sports field management, irrigation, landscaping, equipment maintenance and more.

Arthur also shares her passion for educating others through a weekly lawn and garden radio show on The Coyote, helping local residents learn practical tips for maintaining healthy landscapes.

"There are many avenues for graduates of this program," Arthur said. "Some examples are working on golf courses around the world, city parks, small business landscaping, research, sales and even professional stadiums."
