At Mind Discovery, we look beyond the struggle to understand the cognitive skills that support learning—memory, attention, processing, and sequencing. We identify where students need support and help them strengthen those skills, building confidence as they move from “I can’t” to “I can!”

After making a full year of math progress in just six months, this usually shy young man couldn’t contain his excitement. So, of course, we busted a move! 🕺🎉

The dancing makes me smile, but the look on his face is what I’ll always remember. He knew how far he’d come—and he was proud of himself. We were, too. Christian has since graduated and comes by to show us how well he is doing. Go Christian!! 💙🧠

That feeling matters. When a child begins to understand the math in front of them, they also begin to trust themselves to try the next problem.

Before I ever helped a child who was struggling to learn, I was that child. đź’™

I was born at 32 weeks with amniotic band syndrome. It affected my hands, arm, abdomen, and toes. My first days were spent in intensive care, and my early childhood included surgeries, casts, and challenges most people never saw. 🏥

As I grew, I struggled with my vision and with learning. Reading took me longer. School took more effort. I know what it feels like to work as hard as you can and still wonder why something seems easier for everyone else. đź“š

Those experiences stayed with me when I became an educator. They shaped the way I listen to children, look for the reason behind a struggle, and refuse to give up on what a child can become. ✨

My story gave me empathy. My education gave me knowledge. And the students gave me experience. đź’™

When I tell a child, “I believe in you,” I mean it. Someone believed in me, too. 🫶

We will—because this is the September Cooper showed us just how far he has come. From struggling with phonograms and spelling to writing them confidently—and now working at grade level in reading, writing, math, and spelling.

🧠Does your child forget what you said seconds later?🧠

It may not be defiance. It may be working memory ⬇️

Working memory is the brain’s ability to briefly hold information while using it. Children depend on it to:

• Follow multi-step directions
• Remember what they just read
• Solve math problems
• Organize their thoughts
• Complete assignments without constantly starting over

When working memory is overwhelmed, a child may appear distracted, careless, or unmotivated—even when they are trying incredibly hard.

That is why we look beyond behavior and academics to the cognitive skills supporting learning. When we strengthen the foundation, learning can become less frustrating and more successful. đź’™
