Live Oak Learning Montessori -Weatherford

Last week, our Lower Elementary students (Grades 1–3) went on our first ever “official” field trip. In our community, a field trip is known as a “Going Out” — an important Montessori experience that encourages independence, responsibility, communication, and real-world learning.
Our third-year students helped plan and execute many elements of this trip, including making the initial phone call to the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge, designing the flyer that went home to parents, helping organize logistics, and preparing younger students for the experience.
During their time at the refuge, students explored and experienced three different Texas biomes — the forest, the prairie, and the wetlands — observing firsthand how each environment supports different plants, animals, and ecosystems.
One of the highlights of the day was using dip nets in the Trinity River to search for macroinvertebrates, tiny aquatic creatures that can help scientists determine the overall health of a river ecosystem. Students were thrilled to discover and identify living organisms while learning how environmental scientists study water quality in real-world ways.

One of the beautiful things about childhood is finding joy in everyday moments.

Each week, our students eagerly wait for the City of Weatherford trash truck crew to pass by — and without fail, they are greeted with honks, waves, and smiles. 🚛👋

Thank you for reminding our children that community helpers matter and that kindness can be found everywhere.

It was a very rainy May Day! And part of our celebration had to be moved inside, but what a wonderful day it was to celebrate spring arrival! We did manage to get a little may pole dancing in before it poured…again.

While much of traditional education happens within four walls, a meaningful part of our day unfolds outdoors—where students explore botany, zoology, and the interconnectedness of life through hands-on discovery.

The garden inspires language, too, as observations grow into writing, reflection, and storytelling.
Here, learning isn’t confined—it’s alive, expansive, and all around us. 🌼

At first glance, it’s simply a busy classroom.

But look closer…

You’ll see a children deeply absorbed in their work.
Others repeating a lessons, refining their skills.
A classroom moving in rhythm, not rush.
This didn’t happen overnight.
This is months of growth—of independence, concentration, and trust.

Spring doesn’t just arrive in a Montessori classroom…
It’s cultivated. 🌿
