Untold Stories - Canadian Charm
November 1, 2025

Last evening while eating dinner at the hotel bar I met this wonderful Canadian lady. She had traveled down from Northern California to meet her old boyfriend she hadn't seen in more than 20 years.

Sadly, the former boyfriend, who had flown in from Fiji, was more interested in talking to some stranger than he was in catching up with this dear lady who had driven hours to meet him.

This sweet 80 year old lady was a former nurse and, by her own admission, suffered from memory loss (perhaps dementia). She frequently asked me, “did I just tell you this?”

Anyway, the guy broke away from his guy talk and I smilingly told him he was missing out on a great conversation with this lady and that he should turn his attention to the one who drove hours to meet him.

She smiled and thanked me for filling in as her date.

I don't think she lost a whole lot 20 years ago when they went separate ways. He was obviously more interested in himself than her.

Untold Stories - Auburn to Army

At the airport today I saw a sharply dressed young man.

He wore a black jacket, black tie and black shirt.

Loved the look.

I noticed he had forgotten to remove the coattail stitching. Whoever he was going to meet, I couldn't let him go with that one minor oversight.

I struck up a conversation. He said that while others had dress down Fridays, he had dress up Friday’s.

After complimenting his attire, I gave him a fashion tip on the stitching which he greatly appreciated.

After more dialogue he told me he was going to a friend from college wedding. He had gone to Auburn for a short while and dropped out to join the Army.

This was the impressive part of who this young man is.

Though his whole family, parents, brothers and sisters had gone to Auburn, he wanted something more.

He dropped out of college and joined the Army to become a linguist of which he had to learn fluent Korean in 62 weeks!

Out of 11 students only 5 graduated!

This young man had such an incredible story! Who wouldhave known?

When you travel take time to talk to the people around you. The world is full of smart people doing good things.

The media & social media paints nothing but doom & gloom.

When we look up from our devices and start seeing what is really going on our hearts will be encouraged that there truly is more good than bad in this incredible world in which we live.

Untold Stories - Mario and Brittany
July 14, 2026

I am in Mount Pleasant Texas at The Jalapeño Tree restaurant. I saw a T-Shirt on one of the staff that I thought all restaurants needed and struck up a conversation.

Mario lived in Houston, was down on his luck so his sister brought him to Mt Pleasant for an opportunity for a fresh start.

Mario works six days a week hustling tables, and in his spare time he is going to real estate classes. His hope is to follow his dream of helping others find theirs.

While Mario understands what it means to work hard, what he finds most important is the opportunity he has been given. Mario does not want to waste it, is working hard and is very thankful.

While taking the photo with Mario Brittany wanted a pic too. So I thought why not ask about her story.

Brittany also works as a waitress while pursuing her dream. She attends courses with Home Depot to become a building contractor.

Her mom is a contractor as is her step dad. In fact, together they are building her home!

While Brittany could ride the coattails of her mom, she has chosen to make it on her own, thus why she has made the choice to go to courses and get her certifications on her own.

She is a creative young lady who does all kinds of arts and crafts, one being working with epoxy and wood. Of course I had to tell her about my good friend Jess Crow who is the best in the world!

The most impressive part of Brittany’s story that I picked up on is she is doing all of this as a single mom!

As I travel I find there are a lot of Americans who are doing the right things for the right reasons.

So many are proud of themselves for not giving up. Despite their circumstances or mistakes, they pull themselves up and get back in the fight.

Interesting note…after Brittany told me her story I noticed her dancing around from table to table. It was if telling her story reminded her that she was in control of her life and had purpose.

Take a minute to ask someone their story. There are so many untold stories out there that are just waiting to encourage others.

Men, when your wife is struggling, don’t try to fix it.

When she is deep in the well of emotions, depression, frustration or hurt, don’t throw her a rope.

She is not looking to be rescued.

Your wife wants to know that you love her enough to climb down in the well with her.

Are you willing to sit with her in the uncomfortable damp darkness of whatever she is going through?

Don’t tell her you understand because you don’t.

She wants you to empathize.

She wants to be loved.

She desires you to listen. To just be there and hold her.

Quit yelling down the well.

Climb down with her.

Allow love to lift you both out together.
