This week, our sixth grade science teachers sparked curiosity and wonder in the library, thanks to a special visit from the WNC Nature Center!

Students interacted with an animal guest and dissected owl pellets to learn more about food webs and energy transfer. We're grateful to the HCS Foundation activity grants for empowering us to create unforgettable learning experiences for our students.

Lions and MOUNTIES, and bears, OH MY!

Yesterday our 8th Grade took a trip to the North Carolina Zoo. A huge thank-you to Young Transportation for getting the Waynesville Middle 8th grade team safely to the Asheboro Zoo! We are also incredibly grateful to the NC Department of Natural and Cultural Resources for providing the grant that made this trip possible.

This trip gave our students hands on learning opportunities, allowing them to explore animals, habitats, and ecosystems up close, many for the very first time. Through our photo scavenger hunt, students worked together to locate specific animals, make observations, and connect what they’ve learned in class to real world environments.

Such a memorable day filled with curiosity, exploration, and learning!
