8/21/26 Friday Evening Final Report

Contest Manager John Lubon kicked off the evening debrief by confirming that despite the challenging week, it was officially a valid contest day. The task proved to be a true test of energy management, with nine pilots - exactly half the field - successfully finishing the course. All but one of the remaining competitors made it back to the home airfield.

Day 2 Daily Results:

1st Place: C1 Mamad Takallu, who edged out second place by just two points!

8/21/26 9:05 am - NOAA,"Sunny, with a high near 84. Light east wind." Weather looks good for a task starting at 12:30 pm the clouds should be at 3500' AGL allowing us to make our nut of 3000' AGL to start the task for the last day of the Region 6 Sportsclass sailplane contest. It's flyable tomorrow as well and it's my regular 4th Saturday crew.

8/20/26 Thursday Morning Report

Contest Manager Rolf Hegele introduced the contestants here from the Cumberland Soaring Group: BS Matthew Bates, and K2 Rob Cluxton. They fly out of the Cumberland airport with a Cessna 150/150, nicknamed the "Happy Ho**er." They have 22 members.

Rolf auctioned off some huge City BBQ bags donated to the club from the caterer on Tuesday, benefiting the Caesar Creek Youth Soaring Association 501(c)(3). LL David Cleveland got one for $40, WAY Dave Joyce for $40, 2U Alain Daumas for $40, and Guy Ford Byars for $50. Guy is going to use his for recycling.

Contest Manager John Lubon introduced the winner of the informal duration contest from yesterday. JOE Joe Mastro, P2 Emilie Phillips, and LT John Beckley took tows to 2,500' AGL. The longest flights after tow were:

JOE: raw 14, handicapped 14.28 minutes

P2: raw 16, handicapped 14.05 minutes

LT: raw 13, handicapped 12.27 minutes

JOE accepted the winner's coffee cup! I exclaimed, "We have reached a new low!"

Rob Cluxton gave the Safety Talk, reminding everyone about reading the rules for the competition. Rob asked who has had problems sleeping this week, joking that if you read the rules, it will help you sleep. He highlighted two critical points from Section 9 (the Safety Section): first, always turn left within 5 miles of the Start Cylinder and the base airport; second, keep radio calls as short as possible. Call four miles out from the finish cylinder, call when you finish, and call when you enter the downwind leg. Of course, use the radio to coordinate aircraft in the pattern as needed.

John Lubon called the day and suggested having a bomb drop competition sometime between 2 to 5 pm today during the maximum temperature-dewpoint spread of 10 degrees.

8/16/26 Pilot introductions - P2 Emillie Phillips from the Boston Group. Flying gliders from 2022 and one of their tow pilots. It's her first glider conpetiton and she want to learn all the rules, make sure she doesn't get any penalties, and actualy finish everyday. And she did even though she landed at 10 Clinton on Tuesday, she got an aerotow back to CCSC, flew the task again and made it around! She is flying an ASW-27 which used to have CCSC as it's home base with Poul Perderson, who came out to visit with his former bird this week.
