Uptown Children's Academy Where "hands on is learning" All people have individual characteristics from birth, which progressively differentiate into unique personalities.

Learning always occurs in the context of the learner’s unique characteristics. Because children come to our facility in all stages of readiness, they have different abilities and different needs. Our unique program makes the teachers responsible to constantly evaluate and re-evaluate the total development of the child and to be aware of the progress of each child in each area of development at all

times. A child develops in four areas; physical, emotional, intellectual, and social, but growth will not be balanced or equal in all areas at all times. Growth in a child comes through development of a healthy ego, through accepting oneself as a worthwhile human being – needed, wanted, liked, LOVED – and at ALL times, in all things – BEING ACCEPTED AS IS. This means that differences are not taken for granted, they are recognized and appreciated. They are nurtured in this program. The child’s enthusiasm for many things is another valuable quality they bring to the process of learning. He/She starts life with eagerness about many things, and is open to the new and the different. He/She has the need to see, to touch, and to try out what is around them. This willingness to try things is another characteristic we attempt to foster in children. I believe in letting a child have FIRST-HAND SUCCESSFUL KNOWLEDGE THAT SOMETHING DOES NOT WORK, thus we praise our children for trying all things, even the failures, because we believe that through many failures comes success. Because of this and a child’s willingness to try again and again, it helps them to learn how to be successful. Our program supports the child’s self esteem and pride in family, community, ethnic heritage, and linguistic heritage. My program encourages children to utilize their mother tongue as well as learn the English language. A dual-language heritage is a rich treasure, not a burden. My program is geared to help children learn to function successfully in both the “dominant culture” and their “native culture”.

🍎✏️ FIRST DAY FUN AT UPTOWN! ✏️🍎

What a GREAT first day of school!

There were lots of smiles, lots of excitement, lots of learning…and maybe a few little friends who needed a reminder that school rules still exist after summer break!

But that’s what the first days are all about—getting back into our routines, remembering classroom expectations, reconnecting with our friends, and learning how to be part of our classroom family again.

We played, explored, laughed, learned, and made it through Day ONE!

We are so excited for everything this school year has in store for our preschool and early childhood friends. It’s going to be a year filled with hands-on learning, BIG discoveries, growing independence, friendships, and LOTS of fun!

Pumpkin Check-In!

Today we checked on our two surprise pumpkins to see how much they’ve grown!

The funny part? We didn’t even plant them! 😂 We think they may have sprouted from the pumpkin seeds we tossed out last year—and now we have our very own little pumpkin patch! 🧡

The kids have loved watching the vines grow, finding the pumpkins, and checking on them to see how they change.

Now we’re patiently waiting to see just how BIG our surprise pumpkins will get!

Sometimes the best learning experiences are the ones that grow all on their own! 💚

July was one for the memory books at Uptown Children’s Academy!

From water play and bubbles to swimming, s’mores, sensory activities, outdoor adventures, and hands-on learning… every single day was filled with smiles, laughter, and opportunities to grow!

To a child, it may look like they’re “just playing,” but every activity has a purpose:
💦 Water play builds fine motor skills, problem-solving, and early science concepts.
🫧 Bubbles encourage language development, coordination, and teamwork.
🏊 Swimming helps develop confidence, strength, and water safety awareness.
🔥 Making s’mores teaches sequencing, patience, following directions, and even a little math and science.
🖐️ Sensory play sparks creativity, strengthens little hands, and supports brain development.

At Uptown Children’s Academy, we believe children learn best through hands-on experiences. Every splash, every giggle, every messy project, and every adventure helps build the skills they’ll use for a lifetime.

Look what we discovered in our Pre-K playground today! 🌱

The children were so excited to find a tiny baby pumpkin growing on a vine in our yard! Right now it’s just beginning its journey, but we’ll be checking on it every day to watch it grow.

There’s nothing better than learning through real-life experiences. From flowers to pumpkins, our little scientists will get to see the life cycle of a pumpkin unfold right before their eyes!

We can’t wait to see how big our little pumpkin gets. Stay tuned for updates!

We hope all of our amazing families have a fun, safe, and memorable Independence Day filled with laughter, delicious food, fireworks, and quality time together.

✨ What a MAGICAL day! ✨

Today, some of our preschool friends enjoyed an exciting field trip to The Magic House!

The children spent the day exploring, creating, imagining, and learning through hands-on play. From interactive exhibits to endless opportunities for discovery, there were smiles, laughter, and excitement around every corner!

Field trips like these help children build confidence, curiosity, social skills, and a love for learning while making wonderful memories with their friends.

A huge thank you to our families for allowing us to share these special experiences with your children. We had an amazing day and can’t wait for our next adventure!

🍦💙 What a SWEET afternoon we had at our Father’s Day Ice Cream Social! 💙🍦

Today we celebrated all of the amazing dads, grandpas, uncles, and special moms who fill both roles in our children’s lives.

The children were so excited to share ice cream, special keepsakes they made with their own little hands, and lots of smiles with the people they love most. Seeing everyone together creating memories was truly the cherry on top!

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make today so special. We are so grateful for the love, support, and involvement of our Uptown Children’s Academy families.

What a FUN week we’ve had at Uptown Children’s Academy during our Camping Week!

Our little campers have been busy exploring, creating, and learning through hands-on activities all week long!

⛺ We built campfires
🐦 Made bird feeders with Cheerios and pipe cleaners
🪱 Explored dirt and worms in sensory play
🎣 Practiced fishing and tackle box counting
🎨 Painted with nuts
✏️ Colored with “firewood” pencils
🐟 Enjoyed water play with fish and nets

Of course, no camping week would be complete without some delicious treats!
🍫 S’mores on a stick
🍪 Dirt and worm cookies
🥨 Trail mix
🔥 More s’mores!

We also enjoyed camping-themed meals, stories, songs, outdoor adventures, and lots of imagination as we turned our classroom into a campground!

Thank you to all of our families for helping make this week so much fun. We love watching the children learn through play, explore new experiences, and create memories with their friends.
