We’re excited to have 16 interns at UPMC Washington and 1 at UPMC Greene joining our team for the summer. We’re proud to provide them with the opportunity to experience the nursing role firsthand, explore different areas, and help shape their future nursing paths.

We kicked off their experience with a memorable start— the group had the chance to visit the helipad at UPMC Washington, tour the helicopter, and even watch it take off!

🩺🧡Vanessa is a BSN graduate from our Class of 2020. We are so proud of the nurse she has become and the work she is doing. Way to go, Vanessa! 👏

When Vanessa Black first considered a career in health care, she knew she wanted to help people close to home. Growing up in a close-knit rural community showed her how compassionate, dependable care matters – especially in small hospitals.

Today, Vanessa is a senior professional staff nurse at UPMC Greene, where she began her journey as a nursing assistant before becoming a registered nurse.

Outside of work, Vanessa is rediscovering her hobbies after completing school to become an advanced practice nurse. She enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and her dog, hiking, and soaking in nature to recharge.

After nearly six years as an RN, she says the most gratifying part of her job is knowing that even the smallest acts of caring can make a meaningful difference.

“Compassion and empathy are just as important as clinical skills,” she said.
