Mississippi Is Raising the Bar!

The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) has made important changes to the School Accountability Model, increasing expectations for schools across the state.

Higher Standards:
Letter-grade cutoffs are increasing by 15 points.

New Measures:
Greater emphasis will be placed on college and career readiness, including industry certifications, military readiness, and diploma endorsements.

New Accountability Baseline:
Schools will be measured against higher expectations.

U.S. History Assessment:
The high school U.S. History assessment will no longer be included in the accountability calculation.

Think of it like a teacher raising the grading scale because the class has performed so well. The bar is higher, and we are ready to rise to the challenge!

Wayne County School District is committed to keeping our parents, families, and community informed about important changes from MDE. Together, we will continue working to ensure our students are prepared to meet—and exceed—the expectations of tomorrow.

The Wayne County School District 2026–2027 Convocation was an amazing way to kick off the new school year! The energy in the room was high, the excitement was contagious, and the passion for serving our students was evident from beginning to end.

We extend our heartfelt thank you to all of our outstanding speakers who shared words of encouragement, inspiration, and purpose. Your messages reminded us why we do what we do and challenged us to continue making a difference in the lives of every student.

A special thank you goes to everyone who worked behind the scenes to make this event such a success. From planning and organizing to decorating, setting up, and ensuring everything ran smoothly, your hard work and dedication did not go unnoticed. Your efforts helped create a memorable experience for our entire district family.

As we begin this new school year, we look forward to working together, supporting one another, and continuing our mission of providing the very best education for every student.
