There are so many words I want to say about this situation; however, I will only say know the law and know your rights! Do not over comply! School districts do not approve your homeschooling!

The district is demanding extralegal documents and threatening to initiate truancy proceedings.

Join me for 4 fun-filled math game classes (ages 10 & up) where we will introduce/review these Pre-Algebra skills:
Integers Addition/Subtraction
Integers Multiplication/Division
Exponents
Polynomial Addition/Multiplication
Dates: July 1st, 8th, 22nd, & 29th
Time: 9 - 10:30 am
Location: Information on the registration page
Supplies: Students will need to bring a scientific calculator and a folder to each class. There will be optional homework to complete.
Class Registration: Students can attend any class or all classes. Please register for each class you would like your child to attend. Class size is limited to 8 students.
Cost: $25 for an individual class or $90 for all four classes. Payment information is on the registration page.

Great news! This is from an evaluator’s Facebook group:

I just watched Chattin' With Chap's interview with Will Estrada from HSLDA, and the most recent approach to health and immunization records are that NONE of them should be sent to the district (immunization has been the grey area), and that in several districts where it was challenged, the districts backed down. Some are even now stating in their documentation that they agree. HSLDA anticipated going to court over it, but have not had to do that. The statement in the Affidavit is sufficient:

6. The home education program shall comply with the provisions of §1327.1 of the Pennsylvania School Code and this notarized affidavit shall be satisfactory evidence thereof.

In addition, even immunization exemption letters are no longer needed (unless the parent wishes to attach one - but only the first year, not needed after).

For my Pennsylvania homeschool friends, As January drags on, remember to grab samples of work/writing for the portfolios. Take a few minutes to jot down activities, field trips, books read, videos used, etc. for the first half of the year. You will thank yourself in May/June. Every portfolio is different (could be digital too!)and does not need to be identical to this. Portfolios reflect your style of schooling, but be sure to include the log, reading list, samples of work/writing (show samples from the beginning, middle, and end of the year), and test results for 3rd, 5th, 8th graders per the law.
