In our years working in Professional Development, we know that the #1 factor in the academic success of a child is having the right teacher. Our teachers are the best of the best. They are all reading specialists with master's degrees, and are dedicated to delivering the highest quality literacy instruction in a nurturing and supportive environment. Our Environment
We are the boutique of education centers! We are small and cozy - and never have more than 4 students in our classroom at any one time. We are committed to learning and changing as we go. We are passionate and excel at what we do. We are part of the community, and parents trust us to do the best for their child. Our Completely Different Approach
Thanks to our years of experience in teaching and developing teachers our strategies are always on the cutting edge. We utilize current research and evidence-based best practices for teaching reading and writing. We know that students DON'T learn:
- when they don't have confidence in their reading and writing ability
- when they are matched with learning materials that are too easy or too hard for them
- when they complete a lot of worksheets that don't inspire critical thinking or engagement
- when they are instructed with prescribed curriculums. We don't teach programs, we teach children. Here are the things that we know make the greatest impact on student learning and ground our work at THRIVE:
Environment: Children need to learn to read and write in an environment that inspires and nurtures; this is a place that looks and feels like their home - it's cozy, inviting, risk-free, and supportive. Engagement: Children only remain engaged in things in which they are interested. They need guidance in choosing materials that match their learning style. "Grit is the tendency to sustain interest in and effort toward very long-term goals (Duckworth, 2013)." Our instruction helps to nurture grit. Real books: Children make gains in literacy when they learn to read and write by reading quality literature and writing real books.
