Our Acquired Language Disorders class got the best gift last week — a visit from Zoey and members of the Adler Aphasia Center! 🌟 They opened up about their experiences with aphasia, how Adler has transformed their lives, and the wisdom they want the next generation of SLPs to carry.
Here's what they said:
😊 A smile and a friendly attitude go a long way. Positivity makes communication easier.
👀 Make eye contact and speak directly to individuals with aphasia. Connection is everything.
✨ Nearly 2 million people in the U.S. are living with aphasia. Awareness and advocacy matter now more than ever!

From the classroom to the Capitol 🏛️ Congratulations to second-year graduate student Jaida on representing WP at NJSHA’s Student Advocacy Day! Here's what she had to say about her experience:
Last week, I had the great honor of representing William Paterson University of New Jersey’s Speech-Language Pathology Graduate Program at New Jersey Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NJSHA)’s Student Advocacy Day in Trenton, NJ! During this experience, I had the opportunity to sit in on a council meeting, where I observed the legislative process in action, including bills being presented, discussed, and voted on by state senators. It was incredibly insightful to see how policy is developed and how it can directly impact the field of speech-language pathology.
I also had the pleasure of speaking with Senator John F. McKeon about key issues discussed during the meeting, as well as current and proposed legislation related to our field. I am grateful to have been selected for this experience, which deepened my understanding of how advocacy shapes clinical practice, and reinforced my commitment to staying informed and involved as a future speech-language pathologist!
