Did you know that some bee species are flower specialists and rely completely on one type of flower for survival?
•
Macropis nuda oil bees are solitary bees native to North America found in southern parts of Canada and some of the northern United States. They are flower specialists and female bees will only collect floral oils and pollen found on loosestrife flowers (genus Lysimachia) which they use as food for their brood.

Oil bees collect pollen and oil with dense hairs found on their legs. Female bees will also visit other flowers for their own nectar needs, but depend completely on oils secreted from specialized glands found on loosestrife flowers as part of a healthy diet for their developing larvae.
