In an effort to make communication simpler and more consistent for our families and community, Wayland Union Schools is streamlining our social media presence for the 2026-2027 school year.

Beginning Friday, August 21st, 2026, all of our school building social media accounts will be discontinued, and district news, celebrations, reminders, and updates will be shared through the official Wayland Union Schools Facebook and Instagram pages. This change will provide families and community members with one convenient place to stay connected and informed on everything happening across our district.

Families will continue to receive building-specific information through monthly Smore newsletters and Infinite Campus notifications. We also encourage families to regularly visit our district website for the most current information.

The Katheryn Lorraine Brenner Outstanding Teacher Award for 2026 was awarded to Beth Nykerk, 2nd grade Teacher at Steeby Elementary!

History of the award:
Kathy Brenner was an outstanding student here at Wayland Union and passed away in the fall of 1993 due to complications of cystic fibrosis. She was a person who offered a “ray of sunshine” by just knowing her and having the honor to teach her or be in her presence. She is greatly missed and those of us who knew her loved her very much.

Bob Brenner, a previous Superintendent here at Wayland Union for 23 years, and his wife Sandy, have established an award to honor an outstanding teacher who has committed the extra time and effort to benefit kids in the classroom and/or in extracurricular activities within Wayland Union Schools.

The specific criteria related to the objective include:
1. The teacher must have at least five years of teaching experience in Wayland Union Schools.
2. The teacher could be an elementary, middle, or high school teacher.
3. The teacher must be one who is committed to teaching as evidenced by showing a strong knowledge of curriculum, their field of expertise, and research.
4. The teacher must believe that all students can learn.
