In an effort to make communication simpler and more consistent for our families and community, Wayland Union Schools is streamlining our social media presence for the 2026-2027 school year.

Beginning Friday, August 21st, 2026, all of our school building social media accounts will be discontinued, and district news, celebrations, reminders, and updates will be shared through the official Wayland Union Schools Facebook and Instagram pages. This change will provide families and community members with one convenient place to stay connected and informed on everything happening across our district.

Families will continue to receive building-specific information through biweekly Smore newsletters and Infinite Campus notifications. We also encourage families to regularly visit our district website for the most current information.

Congratulations to Mr. Darrin Door, our new Dean of Students at the High School!

Mr. Door is a proud Wayland Union graduate who is excited to continue to serve the students and families of the Wayland community now in the Dean of Students role. Before beginning his career in education, he honorably served for 10 years on active duty in the United States Navy as a Nuclear Machinist Mate (2009–2019). Following his military service, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Grand Valley State University in 2024 and joined Wayland Union Schools as a biology teacher in the high school's science department.

Passionate about student success, Mr. Door is committed to creating a positive, engaging, and productive learning environment where all students can thrive. He and his wife, who is originally from Texas, are proud parents of two boys who also attend Wayland Union Schools as Wildcats.

His dedication to education, service, and the Wayland community makes him a valued member of the Wildcat family. Congratulations on your new role, Mr. Door!

Please join us in welcoming Bryan Applin as the new Athletic Director for Wayland Union Schools!

Bryan earned his Bachelor's degree in Sport Management from Western Michigan University before completing his Master's degree in Sport Management at the University of Michigan. He brings a wealth of experience to Wayland, including 11 years of collegiate and high school basketball coaching at Western Michigan University, the University of Michigan, Davenport University, and Sparta High School. Most recently, he served as the Athletic Director for Schoolcraft High School & Middle School, where he spent the past three years supporting student-athletes, coaches, and athletic programs.

Outside of work, Bryan enjoys spending time outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and playing sports. He and his wife, Meredith, have been married for six years and are the proud parents of two daughters, Luella (3) and Scout (8 months).

"I am unbelievably excited to join the Wayland Union team to support our student-athletes, coaches, and community as we pursue championships and excellence every day," said Mr. Applin. "What excites me most are the relationships we'll build and the lifelong memories we'll create together as we compete each season. Go Wildcats!"

We are excited to welcome Mr. Applin to the Wayland Union Schools family and look forward to the leadership, passion, and dedication he will bring to our athletic programs. Please join us in giving him a warm Wildcat welcome!

We are thrilled to welcome Mrs. Oostdyk and Mr. Rewa to our High School team for the upcoming school year!

As proud Wayland alumni, they bring valuable experience and positive energy to their classrooms. We are excited to have them join our team and look forward to the impact they will make on our students and school community.

Thrivent is hosting a FREE shred-fest on June 20th, open to the public!
Members will also be collecting hygiene donations at the event, which will directly support Wayland students and families. Please see the flyer below for more details.

This is a wonderful opportunity to make a difference in our own community, and we are grateful for our local support!

Seniors may be gone, but there's still a lot happening! Wayland Schools received a grant, awarded to Mrs. Howell, to add native plants around campus.

Our Eco Club ordered approximately 140 flowering native plants that were added to the butterfly garden this morning at the Middle School. These flowers will help attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds while creating a beautiful and beneficial space for our students and community.

A huge thank you to Mrs. Hoffman and the juniors in her first hour anatomy class for partnering with Mrs. Howell’s first hour class to get everything planted. Several students expressed this was their first time planting flowers, and there were so many conversations about how fun and enjoyable the experience was.

This has been a week to celebrate the senior class!
Yesterday we held the senior cookout for lunch, the senior slip 'n slide at the end of the day, and wrapped up the evening with our CCA Senior Awards Night.
