Hearing from our WSM families is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do. 🎶

When this family first came to us, they wanted to see where their daughter's curiosity for music might lead. With her teacher Dan, she found her way into piano and singing — and before long she was creating her own songs at home.

In her parent's words: "Dan is an exceptional teacher. He's very kind and patient, and I've seen how she has built her confidence and love for music."

Moments like these are exactly what we hope for with every student. Thinking about lessons for your child? Book a free introductory lesson: https://tr.ee/IkzMjpkRRo

⭐ What Parents Ask Us Most — "Do we need to own an instrument first?"

Not to come for an intro lesson! 🎻

We always encourage new students to sign up for a free introductory lesson before investing in anything. And if your child decides to continue, we're happy to walk you through renting or buying — what to look for, what size fits a growing player, and where to find a good instrument without overspending. There's no need to commit to a purchase before you know it's the right fit.

Faculty Spotlight: Eliza Fath 🎻

Eliza's path to the cello started 2 weeks before her fifth birthday, when her mom called their local Suzuki school and asked for their most patient teacher — regardless of instrument. They recommended the cello teacher, and that's how it all began.

Eliza has performed at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and Severance Music Center, as well as on stages throughout Europe and South Korea.

But teaching is where her heart is. She's helped students prepare for successful auditions to precollege and college programs including the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, the Cleveland Institute of Music, Ohio University’s Music Program, the Peabody Institute, and the Juilliard School.

Eliza loves the daily problem-solving of teaching — because every student is unique — and the connections she builds along the way. In her own words: "I want my students to know that their voices and opinions matter in my classroom."

⭐ What Parents Ask Us The Most — "What if my child can't sit still?" 🎶

That's completely normal — especially for young beginners.

Wiggles aren't a sign your child isn't ready; they're just how young kids explore the world. Our teachers plan for it, keeping lessons playful and hands-on and adjusting to each child's age, personality, and pace. A restless start often turns into real focus once a child finds the part of music that lights them up.

When a child picks up an instrument, something remarkable happens in the brain. 🧠🎶

Learning to play is one of the few activities that lights up nearly every part of the brain at once. Reading notes, keeping rhythm, coordinating both hands, and listening all at the same time.

Over time, that workout helps build:
🎵 Stronger memory
🎵 Sharper focus and attention
🎵 Better fine motor coordination
🎵 Problem-solving skills that reach beyond music

Connections formed in childhood with an instrument can significantly influence how your child thinks, focuses, and learns. At Wayland School of Music, we foster these skills through patient, expert instruction in a warm, supportive environment.

⭐ What Parents Ask Us The Most — "Is my child too young to start?" 🎹

Probably not!

With our Suzuki approach, children can begin private lessons as young as three; learning by listening and playing, much the way they learn to speak before they read. For little ones not quite ready for a private lesson, our early childhood classes introduce rhythm, melody, and movement in a joyful group setting. Whatever your child's age, we'll help you find the right place to begin.
