Our Play A Thon is Tomorrow!!!

We can still use some help to make this the best Play-A-Thon yet! If you are able to help, or donate some items, we would really appreciate it. We love seeing parents at the event, and shifts are really easy! Come hang with us and connect with our kids, and food will be available for volunteers.

Kids can bring gym clothes and swim suits to change into after they are done playing. Some kids run around for hours! There will be a room available for kids to play instruments too, and if they have another instrument they want to bring, they can.

All donations are due before entrance into the Play-A-Thon. $25 gets kids in the door, $100+ wins a $25 gift card, and $150+ gets kids the chance at a $100 gift card! We appreciate all you do, and love making music with your kids each and every day.

This committee has been working hard to provide information about the bond and to highlight ALL the reasons we will be voting YES on May 2! ✅
BUT, let's listen to the voices of the experts, the WUS students, about why this bond is so needed. Read the orchestra student testimonial below and view the video!

------------------------------------------------

"The orchestra and band room would benefit for years to come if there were more space for storage. More storage spaces for instruments would allow the music program to grow as more students would be able to play instruments requiring more space. For example, more cello racks, bass racks, and percussion space would allow more students wanting to play those instruments the opportunity to play them and have a space at school to keep them. Besides more instrument storage space, more practicing space in the orchestra and band room in the form of practice spaces would allow more students to be able to get practice during the school day which is especially useful if they can’t practice at home. The new band and orchestra room would also provide more space if the school hosts a big event like Festival, so more people could show up throughout the day and effectively practice their music. A new space would make it possible to recruit more people as well as fit more of an ensemble into the room. In addition to more space, the band and orchestra room would be much better if it had better acoustics; the sound would be more developed and professional at concerts and festivals. This prepares students for the music career pathway after high school and helps to prepare them for future professionalism. In order to obtain professional acoustics, the room itself needs to be safe.
The orchestra and band room is also in need of renovation. The ceiling of the room is falling apart and leaks whenever it rains. This shouldn’t be a concern to the teachers and students. A new music room would fix the problem. The leaking ceiling is just one out of many problems that occur within the music room.
Nowadays, the safety of the school needs to be more taken into account because, unfortunately, violence can be a problem in schools. The music room is the last place a person would want to be in an emergency situation such as a lockdown. The music room has no place to hide—the only places to shelter are in the practice rooms and storage rooms. But the problem with that, however, is there are windows that lead outside and into the building. The music room isn’t a beneficial place to hide in during a lockdown and needs to be addressed.
A new music room wouldn’t only be beneficial for repair but for safety purposes also. Not to mention, the music room is too small. For example, if Wayland wanted to host an event for the music department there may be a struggle due to the lack of space. With a new room the school could host events and open up more opportunities for students that couldn’t imagine Wayland hosting. Therefore, the Bond would be an essential component to making the Wayland Union High School—and the community—better."
