Be the Kid Who Includes

One of the best things we can teach our children costs absolutely nothing: make room.

Invite the new kid over. Scoot down at the lunch table. Pick someone who hasn’t been picked. Say hello first.

We may never know how much a simple act of inclusion matters to someone who feels invisible. Teach your child to be the person who notices.

Move a Little Every Day

Not every child is an athlete, and they don’t need to be. Movement can be riding a bike, walking the dog, shooting hoops in the driveway, dancing in the kitchen, working in the yard, or chasing a sibling around until somebody hollers. 😂

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s movement. Growing bodies and busy brains both benefit when kids get up, get outside, and get moving.

Your Child’s Digital Reputation

Children used to make embarrassing mistakes in front of a handful of people. Now those mistakes can turn into screenshots.

Remind your child that what they post, send, comment, or share can travel far beyond the audience they intended, and deleting something doesn’t guarantee it disappears.

A good rule before posting: Would I be okay with my family, my teacher, or my future employer seeing this? Digital footprints can last a long time. Teach them to leave good ones.

September Golden Achievement Award Winners 🏆

At the September meeting of the Ware County Board of Education, we were proud to recognize Lauren Cox and Katrina McMillan as our September Golden Achievement Award recipients!

Lauren Cox – Certified Recipient
Mrs. Cox is an exceptional special education teacher and co-teaching partner who models what true inclusion should look like. She knows her students, believes deeply in their abilities, and provides the encouragement and support they need while maintaining high expectations. In her classroom, there aren't separate roles or separate groups of students—there are simply teachers working together to help every student succeed.

Katrina McMillan – Classified Recipient
As the school nurse at Ware County High School, Nurse Katrina is one of those special people who quietly makes a difference every day. Whether caring for a sick student, reassuring a worried parent, supporting a staff member, or simply providing a little comfort when it is needed most, she serves others with compassion, patience, and kindness.

Both of these outstanding employees make their schools and Ware County Schools better because of the way they serve students and others each day.

🏆 Celebrating Ware County’s Teachers and Support Staff of the Year!

Friday night under the lights on September 11, 2026 was about more than football! Before kickoff, Ware County Schools was proud to recognize our 2026–2027 Teachers of the Year and Support Staff of the Year from across the district.

These outstanding employees represent the very best of Ware County Schools. Whether they are teaching in the classroom or serving students and staff in countless other ways, each honoree plays an important role in helping our students learn, grow, and succeed.

Superintendent Dr. Lynn Barber joined us on the field to recognize our honorees, including District Teacher of the Year Jenna Brooks and District Support Staff of the Year Scott Raulerson.

A special thank-you goes to Layne’s for providing a meal for our honorees before the game. We appreciate their generosity and their support of the people who serve Ware County students every day!

Congratulations to all of our Teachers of the Year and Support Staff of the Year! We were proud to put you center field and celebrate you in front of the Ware County community. 💚💛

Read Something. Anything.

Reading practice doesn’t have to mean sitting down with a chapter book every night. Recipes count. Sports articles count. Instructions count. Graphic novels count. Magazines count. Reading about dinosaurs, dirt bikes, makeup, hunting, space, or how to beat a video game level counts.

The best way to grow a reader? Help them discover something they actually want to read.

💛 Community Partnership in Action at Wacona Elementary! 🐝

Wacona Elementary School has a new community partner!

The National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Incorporated, Delta Zeta Chapter has selected Wacona as its adopted school for the 2026–2027 school year.

Led by President Carol Reed and Vice President Karen Ethridge, members of the Delta Zeta Chapter are looking forward to supporting Wacona’s students, families, faculty, and staff throughout the year. Their partnership will begin with activities during Red Ribbon Week in October and continue with efforts to support Wacona families during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons.

We are grateful for community partners who see the good work happening in our schools and choose to roll up their sleeves and become part of it. These relationships remind our students that there is a whole community standing behind them and cheering them on.

Thank you to the ladies of the Delta Zeta Chapter for choosing Wacona Elementary. We look forward to a wonderful year of service, partnership, and making a difference together!

They Still Need You

As children get older, they may need us differently, but they don’t stop needing us.

The child who once climbed into your lap may now answer in shrugs. The teenager who says, “I’m good,” may still quietly hope you’ll stick around long enough to ask again.

Keep showing up. Make the snack. Sit nearby. Take the drive. Listen without immediately fixing everything.

Growing independence doesn’t mean growing beyond love.

Character Shows Up in Small Places

Character isn’t usually built during one giant heroic moment. It’s built when nobody is making a big deal about it, like returning something that isn’t yours, including someone who looks left out, telling the truth when lying would be easier, saying thank you, or cleaning up your own mess.

Those ordinary choices become extraordinary habits!

Water Still Wins

Between sports drinks, flavored drinks, sodas, and juices, there are plenty of colorful options competing for kids’ attention. But good old-fashioned water is still hard to beat. 💧

Encourage your child to carry a clear water bottle and actually drink from it throughout the day. Staying hydrated supports concentration, energy, and physical performance.

Sometimes the simplest healthy habit really is the best one.
