We are grateful for your service, sacrifice, and commitment to keeping Waxahachie safe. Thank you for all that you do for our students, staff, and community.

A special thank you to Mr. Herrera and the Waxahachie High School Criminal Justice Program, along with Mr. Ray, Ms. Sias, and their TPSA students, for leading and organizing this meaningful event. Their hard work, planning, and dedication made this morning possible.

We would also like to thank:

πŸ“£ WISD CTE Staff of the Month - August πŸ“£

Please join us in celebrating our August CTE Staff of the Month recipients, Amber Dowell and Shyla Vire! πŸŽ‰

πŸ„ Amber Dowell, Agricultural Sciences teacher, is the kind of teammate every school hopes for. Any question from a new teacher is met with kindness and respect, and she never hesitates to drop what she is doing to help others. Whether she is giving high-fives to students at her duty station, helping a fellow teacher, or getting students involved in hands-on learning experiences, it is clear she genuinely loves her job and the students she serves.

βš™οΈ Shyla Vire, Engineering teacher, has been a huge help to the new teachers on her hallway. She offers encouragement, wisdom, and helps others problem-solve to better serve students. She is a role model when it comes to enforcing school policies, even when faced with pushback, and has embraced new equipment and programs with enthusiasm. Her excitement for getting students into the shop and engaged in hands-on learning is evident every day.

Congratulations to Amber and Shyla on being selected as our August CTE Staff of the Month! Thank you both for the positive impact you make on students, staff, and our CTE programs. πŸ‘

A special thank you to Fig Tree Energy Services for providing gifts for our Staff of the Month recipients. We are grateful for their continued support and partnership with WISD CTE. They are a valuable industry partner who helps support the success of our students and programs. 🀝

Teacher Externship Experience: Celebrating One of Our Own!

We are incredibly proud of Alyssa Starrett, a health science teacher at Waxahachie High School, who was featured in the 2026 DFW Teacher Externship Video! πŸŽ₯

Through the externship, Alyssa partnered with the Midlothian Police Department, gaining valuable insight and experiences that she has brought directly back into her classroom. She has already welcomed two guest speakers from the Midlothian Police Department to speak with her students and share real-world career experiences.

But Alyssa didn’t stop there! Her externship experience also helped her build a partnership with the Midlothian Fire Department to support her EMR/EMT courses, where students are working toward earning dual credit through Navarro College. πŸš’πŸ©Ί

This is what Career and Technical Education is all about β€” connecting classroom learning to real-world careers and opportunities. Alyssa’s energy, curiosity, and willingness to build meaningful community partnerships are making a difference for our students and helping them see what is possible beyond the classroom.

Thank you to Alyssa, Assistant Chief Scott Brown, the Midlothian Police Department, and the Midlothian Fire Department for investing in our students and helping us strengthen the connection between education and the workforce.
