Last Friday some elementary math teachers, who are new to our resource, dove deeper into modules, lessons, and components. Ginny from Great Minds walked them through fluency, concept development, application, debrief and more hands on and minds on work. Our teachers engaged in the work so well.

A huge thank you to our principals for partnering with us and supporting this important work. We can’t wait to see these ideas come to life in classrooms and, most importantly, make an impact for our students!

COLLABORATION was the word of the week!

We simply cannot do the work we do in schools without it. This week was full of opportunities to collaborate, problem-solve, encourage one another, and carry the load together.

And then, at the end of a VERY long (short) week, another person made the choice to step up, help, and collaborate. And honestly, it made me cry. That’s what happens when we work together: we impact students AND lighten the load for each other.

So grateful for the people who say, “I’ve got you” and then just do. Those moments matter more than they know.
Collaboration for the win!

I’ve been to a LOT of after-school PD sessions, but I’m pretty sure I’ve never heard this many CHEERS!

The Innovative Teaching Coalition crew brought the energy, the enthusiasm, and the “YES! Let’s try that!” attitude.
These educators didn’t just show up. They jumped in, collaborated, laughed, learned, and made an after-school meeting FUN.

When teachers are this excited to learn, share, and grow, you just know great things are headed back to the classroom!

Thanks to Ashley Cieri, Barbara Mikulecky, and Melissa Abadie for pouring into this incredible group of educators.

We love a good informational meeting around here! Because knowledge is power, and when we share information, ask questions, and get on the same page…good things happen!

Desirae Zarate and our Dual Language principals from Wedgeworth and Dunaway recently spent some time with our elementary DL families talking about program expectations, the annual contract, pathways, and our vision for the future.

A big THANK YOU to our Dual Language parents for showing up, leaning in, asking questions, and partnering with us to support your precious kiddos. That kind of partnership matters! Thanks for choosing us to be part of your village.

Last week, we threw a little surprise and said “see you later” to a dear leader who stepped in to fill a gap when we needed some extra support.

Mr. Freels is kind, thoughtful, full of wisdom and knowledge, a straight shooter, and always willing to help. I asked for a broom once to sweep up some creepy crawlies, and he did it for me. Who wouldn’t appreciate that kind of help?!? But oh, he did so much more than that.

We will miss seeing him daily, but we are happy to let him enjoy his retirement…for a little bit at least.

Don’t be a stranger Kevin Freels. You said it yourself: we “aren’t so scary” and you know we love ya! 🤣

Sometimes the learning we do to be better educators happens elsewhere. Our Region 10 Education Service Center helps keep us updated and at the top of our games. We are so grateful to be able to partner with them!

Multilingual CORE and Instructional Coach Academy were two recent sessions we attended.

Connecting content strategies and technology is our JAM!

Mrs. Grammer’s 1st graders at Dunaway Elementary showed us how powerful learning can be when great instruction meets a little tech magic!

They used a sketching strategy to strengthen reading comprehension and then took their thinking one step further by using Google Gemini to transform their sketches into storybook masterpieces!

Young readers. Big thinking. Creative confidence. We LOVE seeing our teachers use innovative ways to make learning meaningful, memorable, and just plain fun! And we LOVE how Ashley Cieri and Barb Mikulecky help them do that!

Want to give it a try? We’ve dropped the strategy and the Gemini prompt they used in the comments.

Hey WISD: keep being curious, creative, and a little bit brilliant.

We’ve been sharing lots of posts about what happens at TLI. And while we LOVE showing off the amazing work happening behind the scenes, our favorite stories are always the ones that happen on our campuses, with our students!

Just look at these third graders from Shackelford Elementary!

Students put their creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and literacy skills to work as they tackled Think Tank STEM and literacy rotation challenges in the library, led by the wonderful Mrs. Alcala.

This is the good stuff, y’all!
Kids thinking. Kids creating. Kids working together. Kids having FUN while they learn.

WISD is leading the way!

Texas is piloting the new Math Academies: a statewide learning experience that will eventually require all K–3 math teachers and leaders to complete it by 2030–31.

And guess what?! WISD was selected to be part of the pilot! Twelve of our amazing teammates are diving into 30 hours of deep learning that blends math content knowledge with the how behind great math instruction.

And we’re not stopping there! We’re hoping to be selected as an in-house cohort provider, just like we are for Reading Academies, beginning next year.

Wish us luck! 🍀
