This week we are celebrating reading! It is a great opportunity for the first graders to listen to guest readers and see the importance of reading to everyone of all ages! Thank you to our guest readers and Mrs. Olsen's 3rd graders for reading to us!

Hamlow is super excited about this year's One School One Book, Fenway and Hattie. Thank you to Mrs. Manning for organizing a fun kick-off event today and the PTO for providing a copy of Fenway and Hattie for each student! Students are invited to follow the reading schedule and read at home as a family.

This week the first graders used the book club book they had chosen to identify words that described a character from their book. They created a portrait of their character and wrote descriptive words they felt best described the character. Everyone shared their character portraits with gallery walk.

Ask your first grader to tell you what they learned about sound energy after doing a rubber band guitar experiment and tuning fork experiment.

Read Across America Week
February 26th-March 2nd
Students will be celebrating reading with special activities and dress up days.

Monday: Cat in the Hat - wear a fun hat

Tuesday: Character Parade at 8:40- dress up as a character from your favorite book

Wednesday: Wacky Wednesday - silly socks and/or mismatched clothes

Thursday: Green Eggs and Ham - wear green

Friday: Sleep Book - wear your pjs

The first graders would love to have guest readers come into the classroom and share their favorite book during this week. Check your email for more information and times available or email me with any questions.

Today the first graders celebrated all their hard work and new things learned in the past 100 days of school! Ask your first grader to tell you about the different activities they did.

Valentine's Day
Treats can be passed out with cards. The following are the guidelines for doing this:

All edible treats must come from the approved district treat list. Any item not on this list will unfortunately have to be sent home.

Treats must be brought to school by Tuesday, February 6th. This will allow staff ample time to ensure that all treats are on the district's approved treat list.

Non-edible items are allowed.

Classroom Party will be Friday, February 9th at 2:30

We will celebrate the 100th day of school on Monday, January 29th. Students are welcome to dress up like they are 100 years old!
