Happy Veterans Day to all that have and continue to serve. A special thanks to our own, W-SR Veterans - Thank you!
Please enjoy this musical tribute to veterans, performed by 2nd grade students at West Cedar and Carey elementary schools. Thank you veterans for your service!
If you have taken any pictures this year of school-related events, please share them with [email protected] for the district website. We are looking for students, parents, activities, all grade levels, public service, etc. A brief explanation of the pictures would help too, but not necessary.
Thank you. Students love to see themselves on the website and we want to show off some of the great things going on at W-SR.
The water appears to be receding near Southeast Elementary, but not quickly enough for a normal dismissal. Here is the plan for the end of the day dismissal:
Bus riders who normally shuttle to the high school will be dismissed 10 minutes early at 3:00 to allow those buses to get out of the area before we transport walkers.
All other students will dismiss at the normal 3:10 time and be shuttled across the water to the corner of 4th St. and Crestwood Ave. SE, where they were picked up this morning.
Parents who are picking up students should park away from the corner and walk to pick students up at that corner. School staff will be there with the children.
Due to street flooding, 7th St. is closed. Please access Southeast Elementary from the south. Use great care while driving, and walkers should be alert to some water in the street. Everyone—use caution, drive slowly, be patient! Thank you!
And....we're back! The first day of the 2021-22 school year is underway! Celebrate with us by dropping your first day pics in the comments below! 👇

Just a quick reminder that there’s a Waverly-Shell Rock Community School District bond issue question on the ballot tomorrow!
If you would like to learn more about the district’s needs, the process the board used to develop the proposed solution, and the question on the ballot, please visit https://www.wsrfacilities.org/.
The Waverly-Shell Rock School District and Board of Education have identified two sites in Waverly for new elementary schools to be built if the bond issue is approved March 2. One is a property located on the city’s northeast side along Horton Road, south of St. Mary's Catholic Church and across from the Hind's addition. The other is just west of the CUNA Mutual property.
One of the main reasons for selecting these sites is that they provide enough land to build new schools with the capacity we need. This is difficult to find in the heart of Waverly.
Some community members have asked the question: Because these sites are on the edges of town, would we no longer have “neighborhood schools?”
Check out this side-by-side map of Waverly in 1960 versus 2020. Back then, the schools were on the edge of town. Over the years, housing development surrounded the sites, creating the neighborhood school environment we know today.
