Before we got out for snow, these babies were learning about the three types of rocks. We also use chocolate chip cookies and with careful excavation,
just like in real paleontology, they had to carefully dig out the chocolate chips with a toothpick (excavation tool) to avoid breaking them, mimicking the need to protect fragile fossils during excavation.
The chocolate chips within the cookie act as the "fossils" that are embedded within the rock layer.
The cookie itself represents a sedimentary rock layer where fossils can be found.
