Day 2 for teachers! Yesterday we gathered as a full district staff to kick off the 2026-27 school year and to prep for our students (YOU!) who return next week. Today our elementary team is back and hard at it, learning about our new reading curriculum. Never stop learning! 📚🤩

It’s August, the idea of getting back to a school routine is starting to get real, and your child might be asking—“who’s my teacher?”🤔
Good news! The wait is ALMOST over.🙌🏼
Humphrey and Winsted’s teacher/classroom assignment letters will be dropped in the mail early next week. Please watch your mailboxes (both electronic and traditional USPS). 📬

HLWW elementary students and families, we will see you soon for Welcome Days on Sept 1-2. Our first day of school is Sept 3! 🍎📚

💥PSA for all soon-to-be kindergarten families and a great idea for August...

🍎Getting your Kindergartner prepared for School Lunch:🍎
🔹Practice eating “school lunch” with your child.
🔹Make sure they can open everything you send with them.
🔹Use Bento-style boxes or tupperware, a small thermos (with a pressure release valve to help with backpack and lunch spills), and consider individually packaged items. Milk or water is highly suggested for beverages—no sodas or juices.
🔹Talk with your child about not eating off of the table in the lunchroom. (Helpful for a variety of reasons beyond good manners!)
🔹Set a timer for about 15 minutes and talk about how they may not finish eating and that’s ok. (This is HARD for some little ones.) Our scheduled lunchtime is longer than 15 minutes, but they are also social during this time.😉
🔹Practice packing everything back up and talk about what is trash and what should come back home in their lunch box.
**We strongly suggest everything going back home for a while. (We’ve seen many students throw out at least half of everything whether it’s a home or school provided lunch.) You need to know what they will or won’t eat in school.

Kindergarten lunch is a big adjustment and your child’s teacher (and other school staff) will be super appreciative if you have prepared them for the experience! 🍽️
