Thank You, DAR!
Our first grade students had the wonderful opportunity to welcome members of the Captain James Logsdon Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) from Humphreys and Houston Counties for a special presentation about patriotism, American history, and our nation's flags.
The students learned about the United States flag, including the meaning of the 50 stars and 13 stripes, proper flag etiquette, and why we show respect for our flag. They also enjoyed listening to a story about the American flag and practiced saying the Pledge of Allegiance together.
The presentation also introduced our students to the Tennessee state flag, where they learned that Tennessee was the 16th state to join the Union, what the three stars on our state flag represent, and which states border Tennessee. Beyond the flags themselves, the ladies helped our students better understand what it means to be part of a city, county, state, and country, encouraging pride in being good citizens and showing love for our nation.
The DAR is a nonprofit, nonpolitical volunteer organization dedicated to preserving American history, promoting patriotism, and educating future generations. We are incredibly grateful that these ladies took the time to visit our school, share their knowledge, answer questions, and make learning about our country both meaningful and engaging for our first graders.
