Congrats to former District 16 (Paint Valley) Band Director Nicholas Turon for joining the OMEA team as the Assistant Director of Technology!

We are excited to announce an addition to the OMEA team, Mr. Nicholas Turon, who will fill the position of Assistant Director of Technology. Beginning on July 1, Nick will be responsible for overseeing several technology initiatives in preparation for the retirement of our Director of Technology, Greg Taylor.

Nick brings a wealth of experience, creativity, and a knowledge of and passion for OMEA to the team. He is currently a software engineer and was previously an educational technology director. Prior to entering the technology field, he was a music teacher in the Paint Valley Schools were he taught a wide range of courses including band, general music, music theory, and guitar. He currently co-teaches a high school jazz band, is an active saxophonist, and is a member of a local band booster organization.

Please join us in welcoming Nick to the OMEA team.

Important message from OMEA regarding 2021 All-State Ensembles.

From OMEA Executive Director Roger Hall:

It is with great regret that we announce the cancellation of the 2021 All-State ensembles, including the Children’s Chorus, Band, Choir, Jazz Ensemble, and Orchestra. Region Orchestras have also been canceled for the 2020-21 school year. Applications for performing ensembles and clinicians are still being accepted for the 2021 Professional Development Conference.

The COVID-19 situation posed new challenges, both in terms of safety and logistics, to our 2021 All-State ensembles, and the decision to cancel was made after great deliberation by the OMEA Board of Trustees. Our ability to guarantee a healthy environment for our students throughout the experience was of primary importance in this decision. Even though the actual events are months away and the landscape is still very uncertain, the safety issues of hotel housing, buffet meals, rehearsal spaces, and live performances indicate cancellation as the wisest course for this year.

Participation in the All-State ensembles is a musical and educational experience that cannot be replaced, and we are saddened that we cannot provide that opportunity for our students this year. Plans are already being made for All-State 2022, and we look forward to returning to the stage in Cleveland to make music with world-class teachers and conductors once again.

Because of the COVID-19 outbreak and the governor’s orders, ALL OMEA events (Solo & Ensemble, honor bands, and State Large Group) are canceled.
