Nearly 1 in 10 people who died by su***de had chronic pain.
And chronic pain doesn't always stay in one place.
It can affect your sleep. Your relationships. Your ability to work, enjoy the things you used to enjoy, or simply feel like yourself again.
If you're a Veteran, maybe you know this kind of pain all too well.
That ache that just won't quit.
The nights when you can't remember the last time you woke up feeling rested.
The frustration of having your life shaped around what hurts and what you can no longer do.
During Su***de Prevention Month, we want to remember that su***de prevention isn't only about recognizing a crisis. It's also about noticing the things that can slowly wear someone down.
Chronic pain.
Sleep problems.
Isolation.
Feeling disconnected.
Feeling like you're carrying too much alone.
The VA has personalized options for managing chronic pain and improving whole health, including resources that can help Veterans address the physical and emotional effects of persistent pain.
And if the emotional weight of military service is also affecting you, you don't have to carry that alone.
Healing Warrior Hearts creates a compassionate, confidential community where Veterans can tell their stories, be heard without judgment, and begin moving toward healing and hope. The organization welcomes Veterans regardless of branch, length of service, combat experience, or discharge status.
If you or someone you love is struggling, please reach out. You don't have to wait until things become a crisis to ask for support.
