WVRA to Host Amateur Radio License Exam

The WVRA will hold an amateur radio license exam on Sunday, January 15th. This exam is intended for individuals who are testing for their technician class license, and for those looking to upgrade to the general or amateur extra class license.

The exam session will be held at:

Good News Church

145919 Lowland Lane

Mosinee, WI 54455

Exam starts at 1pm

All applicants must bring ID, FCC issued FRN (can be applied for day of exam), and $15 exam fee* (cash or check). A valid email address is required for all applicants. Applicants under age 16 or who do not have a valid driver's license should bring other suitable identification (minors may be accompanied by a parent with ID).

*Beginning in 2022, the FCC has begun to apply a $35 fee to all amateur radio licenses. This fee is paid at the time the license is issued and directly to the FCC via their website. You will not need to pay this to the WVRA at the time of the exam.

All applicants under the age of 18 are subject to a reduced exam fee of $5 and can be reimbursed $35 for the FCC license fee through the ARRL foundation after their license has been issued.

WVRA To Host Technician License Class

The WVRA will hold a technician license class on Saturday, Jan 14, and Sunday January 15th. The purpose of this class is to touch on the fundamentals of amateur radio in order to prepare interested people for their technician class license exam. The class includes more than eight hours of instruction time covering topics such as operating basics, electrical theory and electronics, antennas, FCC rules, and safety.

Mosinee, WI 54455

Saturday 9am-4pm (hour lunch)

Sunday 9am-noon

Following the class on Sunday, an Amateur Radio Exam Session will be held at Good News Church in Mosinee, and is open to the public.

All attendees must pre-register for the class at www.wvraclub.org. Space is limited. The class will follow the ARRL’s Ham Radio License Manual (5th edition).

The club APRS and packet digipeaters are now back online. They are located on Mosinee Hill using the commercial VHF antenna that the NewVoice Mosinee repeater is on. These systems are:
APRS 144.390 MHz W9SM-1
Packet 145.030 MHz W9SM-7

These are currently being tested and some changes can be anticipated. There may be outages as necessary. Thank you to Mark N9MEA for getting these up and running over the past few months.
