Wausau Conservatory of Music We create leaders. The Wausau Conservatory of Music, an independent non-profit school, opened its doors in 1981 with seven faculty members and 150 students.

Today, the school has grown to 26 faculty members and is attended by over 800 students. In 1997 the school was updated to 19,000 square feet to provide teacher studios, rehearsal rooms and the Caroline Mark Concert Hall that hosts over 60 performances annually.

Thank you to those who attended our first annual Donor Appreciation Party!

It was a wonderful night to honor our donors and board members, as well as new and current faculty members, as we kick off the 2026/27 school year next Monday.

During the event, we said goodbye to Mr. Mike Fischer and Ms. Ashley Springer. Mike was part of our piano faculty since 2018 and served as our interim Executive Director from June 2023 to June 2024. Ashley served as an interim upper strings instructor this past semester. We wish Mike a happy retirement and send our well wishes to Ashley as she completes her final year at UWSP.

Please join us in welcoming Michelle Buchanan to our string faculty at WCM!

Michelle Buchanan is a violinist and strings teacher. She has been playing violin since she was 10 years old. Michelle has performed in the violin sections of the Long Bay Symphony, Mount Pleasant Symphony, SC Philharmonic, and Summerville Orchestra. For the last 3 years with the Summerville Orchestra, Michelle has been the Assistant Concertmaster.

Michelle earned her Bachelor's in Music Education at Illinois State University and a Master's in the art of Teaching from Grand Canyon University. She has taught string orchestra in public schools for about 10 years. Michelle has a passion for music and enjoys seeing those she teaches learn that passion as well.
