The signs of spring are beginning to appear.

As the snow melts and water begins to move again, the children followed their curiosity into the woods. They explored natural dams, practiced balancing on logs and stones, and discovered the changing landscape beneath their feet.

In moments like these, learning unfolds through experience - where movement, curiosity, and discovery come together.

And with each step and careful crossing, spring invites them to notice, explore, and grow.

A line of footsteps, moving into the day.

In Waldorf education, even a simple walk holds purpose — building rhythm, awareness, and a connection to the world around us.

Plans changed, but the exploration continued.

With snow too deep for a walk, the children turned to what was in front of them - and created. Birds, unicorns, polar bears, snow friends, and more began to take shape, each one formed through imagination and many working hands.

In the process, ideas were shared, problems were solved together, and creations grew through cooperation. What began as a change in plans became an opportunity for connection, creativity, and joyful persistence.

And in the quiet of winter, imagination leaves its mark - one small creation at a time.

Fractions you can see, touch, and feel.

In our upper grades, students explored fractions by making their own playdough - measuring, dividing, and adjusting ingredients along the way. One recipe became many as they worked with halves, quarters, and eighths, bringing math into their hands.

In Waldorf education, learning lives in experience. Through doing, students engage the head, heart, and hands - building understanding that is both meaningful and lasting.

In our first grade classroom, mathematics comes to life through story.

Students meet the four processes - addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division - not simply as symbols, but as characters in a tale. Using their math figures, the class watched numbers come together, separate, share, and grow.

In Waldorf education, mathematics is first experienced through imagination and movement, engaging the head, heart, and hands.

The forest is beginning to change.

As the snow melts, small streams of water begin to flow down the hillside, weaving through leaves and stones. During our time in the woods this week, students gathered to watch the water move and look for signs of life.

They discovered tiny water bugs beneath the surface, and soon sticks became fishing poles as they tried their luck “fishing” for leaves in the current.

Through observation, play, and discovery in nature, children develop curiosity, patience, and a relationship with the natural world.

The seasons are always teaching.
