๐บ๐ธ From Grant Elementary, Across 9 Countries, and Back Home to Thomas Jefferson: The Journey of our American Flag ๐บ๐ธ
One year ago, as Grant Elementary prepared to close its doors, U.S. Army Captain Reyes helped retire the school's American flag. But its story didn't end there.
Captain Reyes asked to take the flag with him on his overseas deployment. For the past year, that very flag has traveled the globe, flying proudly over several countries in the Middle East as a symbol of home, community, and service:
๐ฐ๐ผ Kuwait
๐ฎ๐ฑ Israel
๐ต๐ฐ Pakistan
๐ฏ๐ด Jordan
๐ถ๐ฆ Qatar
๐ธ๐พ Syria
๐ฎ๐ถ Iraq
๐ฆ๐ช United Arab Emirates
โ The Strait of Hormuz
On the final day of school (June 5, 2026), the journey came full circle. Captain Reyes returned home and visited the Thomas Jefferson community during an assembly to hand-deliver the flag back to its new home.
Welcome home, Captain Reyes, and thank you for bringing a piece of our history back to us! โค๏ธ

3 days in DC + 2 days in NYC = 5 days of unforgettable memories! ๐บ๐ธ๐ฝ
We took 36 students from John Muir to navigate two of the greatest cities in the world. From the monuments in Washington D.C. to the bright lights of Times Square, watching them learn, grow, and take it all in was the ultimate reward.
